Ahh just found this: Warning: on IE, if the width suggested is narrower than the presentation of an option requires, the option is displayed truncated, with no possibility to see the whole text (without looking at HTML source)!

The width that I have set the select element to is smaller than the width of the longest item in the dropdown list. In IE the dropdown values get cut off at 160px (the width that I have set it to). However, in all other browsers when click on the dropdown menu, the list automatically resizes to the width of the widest dropdown item.
