Following my earlier posting "Elementary questioning about positioning a
div" (many thanks to all who replied), I decided to figure out exactly how
floats are supposed to work, by looking at the CSS2.1 spec
<http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS21/> (naive optimism!).

Despite finding this a bit tough to follow, I wrote a couple of very simple
examples to test out my understanding of the spec, and found IE7 didn't do
what I thought the spec said. So I tried it on Firefox and Opera, and
discovered that although these examples are very basic, only 1 out of 6 is
interpreted the same by all 3 browsers.

Does anyone know what interpretation of the spec is correct, or if this is
clarified anywhere? Not that having the correct interpretation helps if the
browsers don't share it!
The examples are at <http://jazzcreation.com/knowledge/css21>.

Regards,

Peter
