CBS News claims it doesn't believe in "checkbook journalism" (meaning it wants to reap all the profits from other people's news tips and interviews), "but it sure sounded that way yesterday," the New York Post reported today. CBS correspondent Byron Pitts, reporting from the wreckage of the World Trade Center, did not realize he was on the air and was caught yelling into his cell phone, "CBS will pay you money!" The camera switched back to red-faced anchorman Dan "Buckwheats" Rather, who claimed to viewers that Pitt had been "referring to some equipment we apparently damaged," according to the Post.
