Like any religion, Mormonism is composed of many factions: Aaronites,
Reformeds [led by Joseph Smith's family, who see the Brigham Young-
led LDS mainstream as schismatics], many others. Polygamy is a bright
thread in the warp&weft of Mormonism; those adherents see themselves
as being true to their faith. Just as mainstream Protestants may not
accept Mormons as *true* Xians, so Tabernacle-based LDSers may deny
that polygamists are *true* Mormons, but that's just a labeling war,
part of the factionalism process in all belief systems - MY sect is
true, YOURS is bogus, etc etc. Anyway, since the US gov't has quit
persecuting polygamists in recent years, polygamy is even regaining
acceptance [quietly] in mainstream LDS circles. You no longer have to
journey to the Dixie / Utah Strip region, or northern Sonora, to find
openly polygamist Mormon communities. They're starting to creep out
of the woodwork, which is fine with me. Gov't should *ratify* folk's
lifestyle choices, *not* impose rigid patterns of familial behavior
onto a subject population, eh? If my religion/philosophy allows or
requires me to marry zero-to-many wives, husbands, dogs, cars, CPUs,
whatever, that's a matter of CHOICE, of freedom. Freedom! FREEDOM!!
