While a 'state of emergency' clamps down on the city for the second night, the people's newsroom at the Independent Media Center is buzzing. Over 400 IMC media producers are now collaborating to post, uplink, and print their stories of protest, analysis, outrage, and hope. Armed with cell phones, laptop computers, tape recorders, cameras, and a shoestring budget, media activists are using the Center=EDs website at www.indymedia.org to broadcast their stories. Video interviews and street footage are edited and uplinked to satellite, and articles are being published in The Blind Spot daily. While protests continue and brutal police tactics remain unchecked, the IMC continues to receive live reports from its video, print, audio, and photo teams despite a 7 pm curfew. In this, the first of the Independent Media Center=EDs daily digests, you can see, hear or read stories being produced by the IMC collective: Photo: Confrontation at 4th and Pike, 3:30pm PST by gazette webcam 4:54pm Tue Nov 30 '99 http://216.173.206.96/imc/display.php3?article_id=3D146 Article: Turtles and Teamsters Unite Against Patent on Life by Sue Ellen White 7:22pm Wed Dec 1 '99 Patents on life itself already exist and a teach-in today featuring Ralph Nader aimed to mobilize farmers, environmentalists, labor, scientists, and citizens against the WTO's agreements on intellectual property. http://216.173.206.96/imc/display.php3?article_id=3D267 Article: Arrested Refuse to Comply with Booking by Ben Grad 11:48pm Wed Dec 1 '99 More than 450 arrested, and a seriously significant majority is both refusing to give their info, they won't get off the buses. http://216.173.206.96/imc/display.php3?article_id=3D284 Audio: Cell Phone Interview with Arrestees by Asha Confer 7:27pm Wed Dec 1 '99 Hear a cell phone conversation with arrestees waiting to be processed at Sandpoint Naval Base. http://216.173.206.96/imc/display.php3?article_id=3D268 Photo: Police Gas Protesters by the phantom 11:26pm Wed Dec 1 '99 Protesters sit in an intersection in downtown Seattle, some using wet handkerchiefs to shield their faces. http://216.173.206.96/imc/display.php3?article_id=3D283 Article: Police Aggression Aimed at Nonviolent Protesters by Janet Berkow 11:07pm Wed Dec 1 '99 At 6th and Union early Tuesday morning, a group of more than 50 protesters sat at the intersection, intending to block traffic.
