I always found the claim that he was floating around for two days suspicious.
He wasn't even tanned, let alone sunburned, which would have been expected
after being exposed not only to the direct rays of the sun, but its reflected
rays off of the water.

He wasn't dehydrated, either...an almost impossible condition for a small child
deprived of food and water for 2 days...

And he was dressed very strangely, in dayglo orange shirt and pants, as if
someone specifically chose the color that would be most visible from a distance
at sea...assuring that he would be easily found in a timely manner...

But we are told that Elian SAYS he was floating out there for 2 days...this
leaves us with a quandry. Either he really was out there for 2 days, and his
not being sunburned or dehydrated IS a sign of some divine intervention. Or
he never really said he was out there for 2 days, and that story was fed to
the media for some hidden reason. Or the child sincerely BELIEVES he was out
there that long, perhaps due to some sort of mind control or use of drugs, or
a combination of both.

Or, as Elian believes, wandering around Miami somewhere?

The discrepancy can perhaps be explained by the fact that according to law,
if refugess managed to make it to shore and stand upon U.S. soil under their
own volition, that they have the right to claim sanctuary. But if someone
finds them out at sea and brings them to these shores, they are subject to
immediate deportation.

It is therefore no wonder Horta and Fernandez would claim to have swum to
shore themselves, rather than admit to having been rescued while still out
at sea.

This is very different than the claim the supporters of the Miami gang
make that Elian's FATHER called the Lazaro Gonzalez family regarding his
ex-wife bringing Elian to the U.S., a claim the Miami-gang is using to
claim that Elian's father wanted them to have Elian.

One really doesn't need the doctor's name...basic knowledge of pediatrics
would tell anyone that a small child floating on a raft or inner tube for
2 or more days out at sea would be in much worse shape than Elian was in
when he was found.

A child's small body mass dehydrates sooner than an adult's under the
same condition. Even if Elian was kept in a cool, dark room for 2 days,
he would have been severely dehydrated after 2 days if he was given
nothing to eat or drink.

The dehydration is intensified when such a small body mass in placed in
salt water under the direct rays of the sun.

And has been mentioned, he should have been sunburned after just a few
hours out in the sun under those conditions...he wasn't even tanned.

Yes, after they'd been here awhile and had been made aware of what the law
was, they would have every reason to modify their version from being rescued
by a passing boat (in which case they should be immediately deported back to
Cuba) to the version where they swam to shore (which makes them eligible to
claim sanctuary).

Bingo!

I wouldn't be surprised.
