A Bonesman's out of jointIt seems that folks in Skull & Bones - the Yale secret society that claims both President Bush and Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) as members - don't always like what they're reading in Lowdown.
Author and Bones expert Toby Rogers tells me that Manhattan real-estate lawyer David Richards, the Bonesman who "tapped" Yale undergrad George W. Bush into the elite club in 1967, is taking a lot of heat for his anti-Bush comments that appeared in this column in May.
Last week, Rogers recounts, Richards and several other Bonesmen journeyed to Washington to watch their Bones brother Victor Ashe, the former mayor of Knoxville, Tenn., be sworn in as the U.S. ambassador to Poland.
At a reception following the ceremony at the Metropolitan Club, according to what Richards has been telling people, a Bonesman nicknamed "Groggy" sidled up to him and complained about his remarks in this column (originally published in Rogers' book "Ambushed") in which Richards insisted that Bush doesn't deserve to be reelected President.
"I think it's pretty grim, I think he has trashed the economy, and I think he has conducted foreign policy badly, and I think he is a bad President," Richards said. "I don't know what he has done well."
"Groggy" advised Richards: "Keep your f-- mouth shut."
Rogers says Richards, who was in Europe and unreachable yesterday, also has received abusive E-mails from other Bush-supporting Bonesmen.
Meanwhile, according to Rogers, the President recently joked to visiting Bonesmen, "If you want anything from me, you better ask for it now. I might not be here next year."
Of course, if that's the case, they can still ask President Kerry

BONESMAN'S KIN THREATENS TO KILL AUTHOR AND HIS FAMILY
Police Escort Suspect AwayChristopher Richards, Son of Bonesman David Richards, who tapped President George W. Bush into Yale Senior Secret Society, Skull & Bones, was involved in an incident July 1, in Scarsdale New York. There in a face-to-face confrontation, Chris Richards threatened to kill author Toby Rogers and his family.
First there was a story in the Daily News gossip column LowDown by Lloyd Grove about some revealing items in Mr. Roger's book Ambushed: Secrets of the Bush Family, The Stolen Presidency, 9/11, and 2004, TrineDay. The May 26, 2004 article titled "Yale Bud: Bush Bad To The Bones" quoted David Richards from an interview Rogers conducted for his book.
Richards, who is now a Manhattan real estate lawyer, on April 28th 1967, tapped President George W. Bush into Skull & Bones. He told Mr. Rogers that he did not support George W. Bush's presidency. "I think it's pretty grim. I think he trashed the economy, and I think he conducted foreign policy badly, and I think he is a bad President" Richards said.
The story also was mentioned on MSNBC.
On July 1, 2004 the Daily News ran "A Bonesman's Out Of Joint", the Low Down's follow up account regarding the fallout of his first story. Grove reported that according to Rogers, Richards was "taking a lot of heat for his anti-Bush comments that appeared in this column in May."
Rogers told Grove that a Bonesman nicknamed "Groggy" walked up to Richards in Washington DC and told Richards "keep your f---- mouth shut."
Chris Richards, who was Rogers source for the story went ballistic and sought out Mr. Rogers and threatened to kill him and his family.
"He was completely un-hinged," Rogers later recalled.
Chris walked up to Rogers at work and whispered "your on the list," and "Skull & Bones has ordered me kill you. I know where you live and I know where your mother lives too, remember I drove you there? You ARE ALL FUCKING DEAD!!!!" Richards screamed and yelled, "Skull and Bones is furious at my father and he's furious with me! Your book sucks and you're fucking dead. We are going to kill you and Grove is going to die too."
Rogers began to call 9/11, but stopped, and Chris bolted. But Chris called and told Rogers "your days are numbered, your dead get it? The police can't help you. Bones will make you bones."
Chris, later again, confronted Rogers in person.
"Your fucking dead, you and your family will be Skull & Bones soup!"
Rogers asked Chris to "calm down." Chris screamed, " I am calm!"
Chris then pretended to throw a punch and laughed.
Rogers called 911 and Richards ran off saying "you walk barefoot with the rats." Soon the police arrived. While Rogers was talking to the officer David Richards' wife appeared out of nowhere and said, "You betrayed Christopher. He told you something in confidence and didn't know it was an interview."
Chris Richards was escorted from the area by police and released.
