Small Government News* January 6, 2002 Official Newsletter of Carla Howell's small government is beautiful* campaign! http://www.SmallGovernmentAct.org http://www.CarlaHowell.org "Society in every state is a blessing, but Government, even in its best state, is a necessary evil; it its worst state, an intolerable one." -- Thomas Paine (1776) "Big Government is intolerable. Small government is necessary." -- Carla Howell (2002) +++ IN THIS ISSUE +++ -- A New Dawn for Liberty in Massachusetts -- Error in Last Issue of Small Government News -- Secretary of State Sends our Initiative to Legislature -- Liberty Direct -- Research Team Meets -- More Researchers Needed +++ A NEW DAWN FOR LIBERTY +++ Dear Friends, A New Year. A New Dawn for Liberty in Massachusetts. We aim to take the Income Tax out of Tax-achusetts. We aim to give 3,000,000 Massachusetts workers each an average of $3,000 back each year. By Ending the Income Tax in Massachusetts. Republican House Leader Francis Marini said, "The Libertarian Ballot Initiative to End the Income Tax is going nowhere." (The Howie Carr Show) Republican Governor Jane Swift's spokeswoman said, "There's not much appetite for this proposal." Democrat Governor Wannabe Robert Reich wants to give us a new tax on long-term capital gains. Democrat State Representatives and Senators are looking for new taxes, new fees, new revenues to fund Massachusetts' ever-growing greedy Government. Big Government Jane Swift and the Elected Republican and Democrat State Legislators are united and bi-partisan in their expansion of Big Government and High Taxes. But Taxpayers don't have to take it any more. Voters don't have to take it any more. The Small Government Act to End the Income Tax in Massachusetts is headed for the Ballot. Now we have a choice. 2002 is a New Year. A New Dawn for Liberty in Massachusetts. small government is possible, Carla Howell Personal Responsibility is the Price of Liberty, Michael Cloud +++ ERROR IN LAST ISSUE OF SMALL GOVERNMENT NEWS +++ "In the last issue of Small Government News, I mistakenly listed Frank Tutalo as reporting for the Statehouse Bureau. Mr. Tutalo works for the Lowell Sun. I apologize for my error." - Michael Cloud +++ SECRETARY OF STATE SENDS OUR INITIATIVE TO LEGISLATURE +++ Massachusetts Secretary of State William Francis Galvin has notified us that he transmitted our Ballot Initiative to End the Income Tax to the Clerk of the House of Representatives, as required by the Constitution. The House Clerk must put our Ballot Initiative before the State Legislature for a vote this Spring. If our State Legislature had a widespread outbreak of small government fever, they could vote for our ballot initiative and End the Income Tax, without ever sending out initiative to the voters. If they fail to do so, our initiative is headed toward the 2002 ballot. +++ LIBERTY DIRECT +++ Are you on our mailing list? If so, you'll soon receive a letter from Carla Howell with a message on the outside of the envelope which says, "75,629 Certified Signatures Send End the Income Tax Initiative to Voters!" This sizzling letter tells you in detail about "Liberty Direct", a cheap, simple grassroots program to persuade Massachusetts voters to support our Ballot Initiative to End the Income Tax in Massachusetts. The letter also contains a blue flier that makes the hard-hitting, common sense case for Ending the Income Tax in Massachusetts. Read your letter from Carla Howell right away. You're going to be excited. Thrilled. Jazzed. +++ RESEARCH TEAM MEETS +++ On Saturday, January 5th, 9 volunteer researchers met at our Campaign Headquarters. Their mission? To analyze and document the most destructive and most wasteful departments and projects in Massachusetts state government. We will keep you informed. +++ MORE RESEARCHERS NEEDED +++ Would you like to help us dig out the waste, mismanagement, and destructive consequences of Massachusetts Big Government programs?
