I am lucky to be alive because a few years ago I was abducted by the notorious Sudanese security forces of the National Islamist Front. I was tortured myself and later had to witness the torture of others as well as the smashing of a young teenagers head against the wall every day in front of me. The only reason I am alive is probably because I am a European and hold a British Passport. I noticed that the lighter the skin colour the better the treatment, those who are very black have little or no chance of coming out alive. I will never forget those I left behind in the torture centres and often wonder if they made it. Please I want to ask you a favour to help me to help those I left behind. Just today, the British Minister of State at the Foreign Office, Mr Peter Hain, addressed a meeting of young Amnesty International members. He explained how he used to be in their position demonstrating in the rain outside government asking for actions to be taken to protect human rights. He ended his speech saying he is willing to hear from anybody, however I will let you read his short speech for yourself. There is something the British government can do. My own case is well documented but they have not bothered to take it up with the Sudanese regime. The Sudanese Air Force continues to bomb civilians in remote parts of the country by air. You can see one such bombing of school children on video as by a miracle a visiting young man had a half broken camera with him. It is heart rendering to see young children dying on the ground their classmates in shock. The comment of the Sudanese ambassador in Kenya when shown the video - which you can see yourself - was "the bombs landed where they were supposed to land!" These are fanatics and racists who wish to see all the Africans of Sudan exterminated by hunger, disease or bombs. Already more than one million have died in recent years, did you know that? Some statistics say two million. The British government CAN do something. There is now oil in Sudan and oil companies from the West and companies which supply the new oil industry are all moving in for fast profits from a regime desperate to exploit the oil - already bringing millions of dollars daily for their 'war effort'. Canada has rewarded the regime by opening an embassy and ignoring a damning Canadian government report on the connection between the Canadian Oil Company Talisman and the genocide taking place with the help of their oil and even the use of the oil company airstrip by Sudan Air Force aircraft! The European Union is about to announce that there are "improvements in human rights in Sudan" and this is all because they want to be able to sell to their population the explanation as to why European businesses are going to go to Sudan and work hand in hand with the Islamist regime. Please, all I ask that you do, is to visit the following website links, and click on the link to send an Email to Mr Hain which will be printed out with many others and handed to him or his representative by the London office of Green Charter International Human Rights Movement. It will only take a few minutes of your time to write an email either urging him to take action regarding the involvement of British companies in Sudan or on any other issue of human rights concern to you. Incidentally, the torture house in Khartoum was only a few hundred yards from the British Embassy. A ward of the Embassy has told me they know about it and its location. I often ask myself why the Embassy does not demand a visit - unannounced - to the military compound housing the centre. I suppose it is because they would be told they are interfering in Sudanese affairs. So why then reopen the British Embassy? Why not British European businesses from going to Sudan? He cannot do anything if he has no papers in his hand. I plead with you to at least forward this email to others and send a message to Mr Hain via the above link, and even to print out information or talk to friends and family, neighbours, members of your church, mosque or temple and urge them to do the same. God will reward you for your efforts - and if those left behind knew it would give them much courage. On my own release I broke down in tears for the first time on reaching Cairo airport when the Australian embassy told me they and my family and friends had been so concerned and doing all they could for my release. Had I known that whilst in that place, it would have given me added strength which I could have passed on to those around me. As it is now I feel impotent although free. I promise you I will not rest until I can visit those centres myself and verify that they are closed down and until I can learn the fate of those I met in the most degrading conditions and had to leave behind.
