-- Quoting the spokesman of the Iraq's armed forces, Radio
Baghdad said
that the US-British fighters violated the air space of Iraq 40 times
on
Saturday afternoon, bombing 12 cities. In its Saturday night, nine
O'Clock
news, Radio Baghdad added, "The air defense of Iraq fired missiles
and
cannon bullets at the invading alien aircraft, forcing them to
retreat to
their nests in
Kuwait."
Meanwhile, the Voice of Iraq, launched from Saudi Arabia,
said
on Saturday night that the American F16s have been using Jordan's
Al-Arzaq
Air Base for 1,450 sorties of flights launched to attack targets
in
southern Iraq. There have
still
been no reports on the number of casualties, or probable material
losses of
the apparently heavy Saturday night air
raid.
On Thursday night, the Iraqi
officials had
announced that five Iraqis, including an infant, and two women,
had got
killed, and 17 other civilians seriously wounded when scores of US
and
British warplanes bombed southern
Iraq.
On Wednesday night, during a celebration marking the
43rd
anniversary of a military coup that brought President Saddam
Hussain'sBaath
Party to power, in an address broadcasted live on Bahrain's Al
Jazeera TV,
Saddam vowed to win the uneven war against the West. US President
George
W. Bush, too, has vowed to use all possible tools at his disposal
to oust
Saddam, whom he accuses of developing weapons of mass
destruction.
Bush had earlier this year charged
Iraq,
along with Iran and North Korea, as forming an "axis of
evil."
