WJPBR Email News List [EMAIL PROTECTED] Peace at any cost is a Prelude to War! Friday December 28 1:18 PM ET Bin Laden Reportedly in Pakistan KABUL, Afghanistan (news - web sites) (AP) - The interim defense minister said Friday that Osama bin Laden (news - web sites) has fled into Pakistan, a report that contradicted the prime minister, who has said the Afghan government doesn't know where he is. Mohammad Fahim, in an interview with Japan's Fuji Television, refused to say how he knew where bin Laden had gone. But he said the fugitive leader of the al-Qaida terror network left the Tora Bora cave complex in Afghanistan's eastern White Mountains. ``After Osama bin Laden left Tora Bora, he went to Pakistan. He is under Pakistan's control,'' Fahim said. ``He is out of our control.'' Attempts to reach the Defense Ministry for further details were unsuccessful Friday evening. The head of the Afghan interim government, Hamid Karzai, on Thursday quashed a statement by a Defense Ministry spokesman that bin Laden had fled to Pakistan. Karzai said his government didn't know where bin Laden was. The United States has similarly said it has no firm idea of where the al-Qaida leader is, or even if he's still alive. ``He is not escaping us,'' President Bush (news - web sites) said at his Texas ranch Friday, ``We're going to get him running and keep him running, and bring him to justice. ... He's on the run, if he's running at all.'' Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said bin Laden was ``either in Afghanistan, or some other country or dead.'' ``We hear six, seven, eight, 10, 12 conflicting reports every day'' on bin Laden's location, he said Thursday. Afghanistan's interim foreign minister, Abdullah, has said previously that bin Laden was in southern Afghanistan, a statement echoed by other officials. Fahim, an ethnic Tajik from the northern alliance of opposition groups that battled the bin Laden-friendly Taliban militia, has said he wants a limited number of international peacekeepers in Afghanistan for no more than six months. Karzai has said six months is a minimum for such peacekeepers. Rumors about bin Laden's whereabouts have been flying in recent weeks, sometimes at the rate of several per day. Last week, Pakistani President Gen. Pervez Musharraf said he was ``reasonably sure'' bin Laden had not escaped into his country and said there was a ``great possibility'' the fugitive was dead. *COPYRIGHT NOTICE** In accordance with Title 17 U.
