A 20-year-old UAE national girl who is celebrating her wedding tonight has
donated her entire dowry to the family of an Intifada hero. Mariam Saleh
Shames of Kalba, who studies education at Ajman University, told Gulf News
that she is very happy to donate her dowry to the family of a suicide
bomber who was martyred in Tel Aviv.

"I am touched by all our Palestinian brothers who are fighting against
Israeli occupation. I am one of the many Arabs who encourage our brothers
in the occupied lands, and try to support them with money and other aid to
help defend themselves."

She said she donated the dowry because she felt it is her duty to help the
Palestinians and the Intifada. "My dowry is a very small, humble
assistance to our brothers in Palestine and I wish I had more money or
gold to donate again to the family of Al Hotari, a martyr, and other
Palestinians who give their blood for their country."

She feels that she and every Arab citizen should be responsible for
defending Palestine against Israel. They should do their best to help the
Palestinian people kick Israeli troops out of their land.

Her father, Saleh Shames, a Major in the Coast Guard, said he is very
proud of his daughter. "Mariam is the first of my daughters who is getting
married. I am really proud of her, and her deed reflects her good moral
breeding. I am so happy and content because Mariam will raise her children
the way she was raised, following our Islamic teachings and morals which
stress the importance of helping each other."

Bridegroom Eisa Mohammed Saif, who studies aerospace engineering in the
U.S., expressed admiration for his bride. "I am so proud of my bride and
her high moral behaviour. She always wants to help other people and
Muslims. She has donated all her wealth. I appreciate her deed. I am so
happy and am optimistic of having a very successful and comfortable
married life."

The Consul General of Palestine sent a letter to Mariam thanking her for
her generous donation. A Palestinian folkloric band will play at Mariam's
wedding tonight, a gift from the Palestinian people to express their
gratitude.
