CONSPIRACY WRITER'S WEB BUSINESS, NEWSLETTER ARE GROWING CONCERNS

When conservative writer Christopher Ruddy isn't making his
living by beating up Bill Clinton, he likes to hit the beach.

That's why Ruddy - the author of books and articles promulgating
murder theories in the suicide of White House Deputy Legal
Counsel Vincent Foster and the death of U.S. Commerce Secretary
Ron Brown in an airplane crash - decided to settle in West Palm
Beach.

Last fall, the man described as "crazy, I think," in court
documents by former Clinton aide George Stephanopoulos, opened a
two-room office in the Harvey Building in downtown West Palm
Beach as the headquarters of his newsletter, Internet Vortex, and
his Web site, Newsmax.com, for Clinton haters.

Ken Williams, Ruddy's first employee, said there were many times
when he would see a beach towel and sandals at his boss' desk
because Ruddy had returned from a swim in the ocean.

Little time for that now. Business has been so brisk that Ruddy,
a favorite of conservative financier and newspaper publisher
Richard Mellon Scaife of Pittsburgh, went from one employee to a
dozen. He recently moved to a larger office on Palm Beach Lakes
Boulevard, and now is looking for more space, Williams said.

Ruddy was in New York and did not return calls.

The monthly newsletter, which costs $ 39 a year, has 16,000
subscribers and the Internet site has more than 1 million unique
users a month, Williams said.

The Web site has little advertising. The company makes most of
its money from an online store of mostly anti-Clinton books,
pamplets, audiotapes and videotapes - much of it recycled from
Ruddy's interviews. The merchandise has been so popular that
Newsmax is planning to mail its first holiday catalog.

The offerings include such books as Clinton Confidential,
Betrayal: How the Clinton Administration Undermined American
Security, and The Secret Life of Bill Clinton.

Newsmax's latest release is a two-volume audiotape set: More Than
Sex: The Secrets of Bill and Hillary Clinton Revealed. The
company recently promoted it in a full page advertisement in The
New York Times.

The $ 19.95 tape of Ruddy interviewing an Arkansas state trooper
once assigned to guard then-Gov. Clinton promises to reveal the
truth of why Clinton remains chubby despite supposedly jogging
all the time and asserts the book Primary Colors is all true.

Still, not everything for sale from Ruddy pillories and vilifies
Clinton.

There's also a line of Grundig radios, such as the "Yacht Boy 400
PE," for $199.95, and language books such as Berlitz Think & Talk
for $ 174.95. Also available: audiotapes of the world's greatest
composers, thinkers and investors.

"The world's 100 greatest composers are not part of the vast
right-wing conspiracy, I assure you," Williams said.
