LOS ANGELES (AP) Susan Berman was
found dead at her home in fashionable Benedict Canyon, a bullet to the back of
her head, in what looked like a page from one of her books about the Las Vegas
mob.
It was a world she knew from the inside. Berman, 55, was a Mafia princess in her childhood. Her father was Davie Berman, a lieutenant to Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel and Meyer Lansky. She learned to count with chips and dice, dined on the Flamingo Hotel's room service and had a full-time bodyguard to protect her from kidnappers. But was her Christmas Eve slaying a
mob hit? And if so, was she rubbed out for something she had written? Or
something she was about to write?
