-Caveat Lector- -Cui Bono?- In the olden days before HMO's and our enlightenment about so many things, the test for hyperactivity included such things as poor do-ordination. This was because the mind was moving at a rate the muscles could not maintain. Other things like inability to be still or remain at rest were also considered. I cannot imagine what the criteria is today but I am sure both my children would have been l;labeled hyperactive. One was but I said nonsense to that. In those days, early 1980's, the parent still had some say in the drugging of their children. It went on but not to this extent. The friend of one of my son's was diagnosed as ADD because of poor hand-writing. The difference is that the parent had the option to disregard such. Now, I believe, the parent is labeled negligent if they fail to immediately sedate the child based on the whim of teachers, doctors, etc. I think much of this comes from a poor understanding of the nature of little boys. Are we creating a whole generation of dysfunctional males from this treatment of our male children? They are SUPPOSED to run around and make noise and be rowdy at times. I fear we are rep;acing normal behavior with desired behavior--desired by teachers, etc. whose job it is to maintain order at all costs. I noted many who complained about my children had no sons, brothers nor husbands. I wondered even then just where and what they based their concept of "normal" behavior on. Came to the conclusion it was how they wanted children to behave. Like small sheople.
