-----Original Message----- From: Blagovesta Doncheva <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Mrs. Jela Jovanovic Secretary General <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Tuesday, June 20, 2000 9:27 AM Subject: CIA, Agca and the "Bulgarian Trace" > >"Monitor", June 15, 2000 > >The Plot Against Bulgaria >(Part I) > >The attempt on Pope s life 15 years ago was used for a dirty game against our country. Today Agca is pardoned, but our country name is not cleared yet. > >By Volen Siderov > >The news for Agca pardoning and his extradition in Turkey has brought back to life the memory for an anti Bulgarian play which had been on the world stage 19 years ago. > >Agca (23) had fired three times against Pope Joan Pavel II at 5,17 p.m. on May 13, 1981. He was a member of the extremist Turkish organisation "The Grey Wolves", and was being tracked out by Interpol for Abdi Ipekci s murder, the Turkish newspaper "Miliet" s chief editor. He had a death sentence for that murder but managed to escape from prison and was going about Europe with false passports. > >An ideal discrediting is worked out from that assault > >The Italian court had given him a life sentence by July 1981. There was not a word then about any Bulgarian and Soviet Union Secret Services participation in the assault. It was accepted that Agca had fulfilled his threat from November 1979, sent in a letter to the Turkish newspaper "Miliet" to kill the Pope for his collaboration (according to Agca) with the "Western imperialists" and "the assault on Mecca, carried out by USA and Israel.." > >Everything was clear: the killer and the weapon were taken, the motives were known. There was no reason whatsoever for re-examining that court decision. > >But some circles thought otherwise. Which were they? > >Ronald Reagon came to power in 1981. His close friend and hard anticommunist, William Casey (? Spelling) became a CIA head and started a new conception for destroying the soviet system. Propaganda was that new strategy basic part. Casey had worked out an impressive scheme backed by the CIA whole financial power and Reagon a Administration full support. (Reagon was the one who named the Soviet Union "The Empire of Evil".) > >The "Jonathan" Institute had worked on the subject till that time (that Institute was well known for the organisation of forums on the international terrorism ). One of them was carried out in Jerusalem in 1979. Then reports were presented by George Bush - a future USA President and former CIA boss (1976-1977) - and Sholms Gasit (?Spelling) from the Israel Army Investigation. That historical conference established several main points of the anti soviet system fight. The most important of them was the demand "the terrorism to be constantly represented as directed by "The Empire of Evil", KGB and its Soviet Block collaborators to be constantly denunciated" (as a source and perpetrators of terrorist acts). > >The Washington and Tel Aviv think tanks theoretical postulates turned into a practice three years later. Agca s life sentence in 1981 gave an ample possibility for staging the play called "Bulgarian Trace". > >Panitsa s "The Reader s Digest" let out the faecal spurt against Bulgaria > >The scenario fulfilment began a year after Agca s life sentence. The start was given by the widely spread "The Reader s Digest". Claire Sterling s fundamental article, titled "The Plot to Murder the Pope" was published there first in English in August, 1982, and then in other languages in September, 1982. For the first time Sterling advanced the thesis about the KGB and the Bulgarian Secret Services participation in a plot against the Pope - because he was a Polish "Solidarity" sympathiser, i.e., a Moscow enemy. That article informed the reader that > >"Agca is neither an agent of "The Grey Wolves", nor an unbalanced person: he hasn t acted by himself. There are all reasons to believe - as I have understood for several months investigation - that the man has been a weapon of a very thorough worked out international plot." > >Then Sterling informed the reader about Agca 50 days stay in Bulgaria, about his meetings with the Bulgarian Secret Police cops in the notorious "Vitosha" Hotel room 911; she most diligently revealed Bulgarian aspirations to destabilise Turkey by encouraging both left and right terrorism there. The top lie in those Sterling s legends was the version that Agca had not been Ipekci s killer, but he had only taken the blame on himself as a gesture to the left forces, aiming at discrediting the right ones. > > >USA cops appear on the stage > >That Sterling s article is used for multiplying the propaganda lie, called "The Bulgarian Trace". Many Western electronic media and newspapers rushed greedily and started its distribution as if it was some long waited for sign for an anti Bulgarian campaign. Radio "Deutsche Welle" broadcast Sterling s version as early as August 18, 1982, with the strong insinuation that it was the truth itself. "The Voice of America" was quick to inform its listeners about the pseudo revelations of "one of the most respected European journalists". The USA television NBC broadcast Marvin Kalb s film "The Man Who Fired Against The Pope" on September 21, 1982. Kalb expressly specified that the film was made with the active participation of Sterling and Paul Henze. Paul Henze was represented as a journalist from "The Reader s Digest", but the same Paul Henze was included as an acting CIA officer in the USA Publishing House File Stuart s Reference Book for the Agency. There one could read that he had worked actively in Turkey from 1958-1959, and then - from 1974 till 1977. > >Sterling and Henze were generously financed by "The Reader s Digest" in the face of its main editor, John Panitsa. In that way a think-tank was formed, comprising active CIA agents, USA intelligence service employees, high rank US political advisers, like Brzezinsky and Jan Novak, Richard Helms and Robert Kupperman. The public distribution of the anti Bulgarian version was to be carried out by Sterling, Henze, John Baron, Robert Moss, Arnaud de Borchgrave, Daniel James and Michael Ledin. They made a good use of the enormous circulation of "The Reader s Digest", "New York Times", "Washington Post", as well as the more widely distributed and yellow editions, "Enquirer" and "Washington Times". > >USA legitimised Sterling s lies > >Claire Sterling was met as the First Astronaut in Washington on December 22, 1982, by the President Commission for watching the observation of the Helsinki Concluding Act and its Head, Mrs. Fenwick (?Spelling). The last warmly congratulated Sterling the Forger for the revealed international plot. > >In that way US legitimised the lie. A quick action followed in close collaboration with the Italian Secret Services SISMI (?).Only days after Sterling s reception in Washington, Agca was visited by two Italian specialised cops, Bonagura and Petrucelli (?Sp). After that visit Agca started "singing". He wanted to talk, wants to reveal a "sensation" - namely, that he was a part of an international plot, born in Moscow and Sofia. > > Sergei Antonov was arrested a month before, on November 25. He was given the part of the Victim that had to prove the widely distributed lie in the staged CIA play insinuating that the assault against the Pope had been organised by the Bulgarians. > >An innocent Bulgarian sufferings had started. They continued 1222 days... > > > >Continued > >Tomorrow you can read how the USA have discussed the possibility Bulgaria to be military attacked as a terrorist centre. > > >Translated by >Bl.
