I am sorry to say - that I believe most Alaskan Natives support drilling anywhere in Alaska that will bring more money into the Permanent Fund. Nearly all resident Alaskans regard dividends from the Fund as an important part of their income. The oil companies know where the oil is - and they want it. It isn't as big an amount as most people think. A few years at best - and then only if it is used as a supplemental supply for America's huge import of oil. By then - the Artic environment would be destroyed. Alaska's environment has steadily eroded since 1867. Deforestation by the logging industry, (including Native Corporations), overfishing by the cannaries, and mining have all taken their toll. At least the Russians pretty much left us alone. The real destruction started with the Americans. Alaskans have never had any real ownership or control over our resources - its has always been controlled by outside companies. Oh, Ms. Norton, we're so glad you're here to rescue us.
