--- Begin Message ----Caveat Lector- <<High Times Disinfo Review by Bill Weinberg - March 2003 issue High Times Disinfo's Conspiracy Compendium .... "The first, (and most predictable) of the hyperventilating teaser lines on the back cover is 'The US had foreknowledge of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.' But the book fails to deliver on this claim. The essay, 'Sept. 11, 2001 - No Surprise,' is a contribution by the books editor Russ Kick, and all it establishes is that terrorists wanted to destroy the World Trade center. You don't have to be James Bond to figure that out. Kick offers nothing to indicate that anyone other than the hijackers knew the attack was going to happen." ---------------------------------------------------------- Really? That's odd. I could swear that I wrote about the terrorism and hijacking warnings from the State Department, the FAA, and the airline industry in the months and even the days prior to 9/11. I really thought I discussed the warning about flying to NYC on 9/11 that was given to San Francisco's mayor the night before. I seem to remember writing about the fact that the FAA refused to let Salman Rushdie fly in North America starting one week before the attacks.I'm pretty sure I wrote about the fact that, despite official pronouncements to the contrary, the authorities had been monitoring bin Laden's and al Qaeda's communications for years, including the days before and the day of 9/11. I recollect writing about the Governor of Florida--the President's brother--activating his state's National Guard, citing "civil disturbance" and "acts of terrorism," on September 7. I believe that I wrote about mainstream media articles which quoted FBI officials and New York police saying that they're investigating how Muslims on the street knew the attacks were coming. If I'm not mistaken, I wrote about the person in the Canary Islands who overheard three Afghan men talking about "a major terrorist act against the US via an airline or airlines," then warned US authorities about this. I do believe I discussed Israeli intelligence officials who warned their US counterparts in August 2001 "that large-scale terrorist attacks on highly visible targets on the American mainland were imminent." I vaguely recall writing about the German intelligence agents who said that--thanks to Echelon--the US, the UK, and Germany all knew about the plot several months in advance. It seems like I quoted Jeremy Bremer, a former State Department terrorism expert and the chair of a national commission on terrorism in 2000, telling the Boston Globe: "We all predicted this. We had strategic warning. This is not something the analysts missed." I seem to recall quoting Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld who said, in an interview with Parade magazine, that there were "lots of warnings" about 9/11. I could really swear that I wrote about NPR's report from the morning of the attacks, which said that CIA Director George Tenet had recently warned some members of Congress of "an imminent attack on the United States of this nature. So this is not entirely unexpected." Yes, I really thought I wrote about all of this, and much more, in my 14,000-word article, with 57 endnotes referencing almost 100 mainstream media reports. But according to this reviewer, I offer "nothing" that points to advance knowledge of the attacks. Must've just been a really vivid opium dream I had. -Russ Kick- [EMAIL PROTECTED] <www.thememoryhole.org> The Konformist must make a request for donations via Paypal, at Paypal.com.
