Israeli Army Commits Massacre In Jenin: Palestinian Officials

Middle East News Online

GAZA, Gaza Strip (MENO)- Palestinian officials and residents said
Saturday that the Israeli army committed a massacre against the
Palestinians in a refugee camp of Jenin in northern West Bank, killing
at least 30 Palestinians there.

Palestinian Information Minister Yasser Abed Rabbo said that the world,
the international organizations and the Red Cross must interfere "as
immediate as possible" to save the residents of the refugee camp from
the "furious" Israeli army attack on Jenin.

The Israeli army entered Jenin on Tuesday as part of the Israeli army's
widespread offensive against the Palestinian National Authority and the
Palestinian militants in the West Bank, pushing hundreds of tanks and
armored vehicles.

An eyewitness from the Jenin refugee camp, who identified himself as
Adnan, said that over the last four days, the Israeli army carried our a
serious destructive war against the Palestinians in the camp.

He said that Apache helicopters and tanks have been shelling missiles
and tanks shells at the houses in the camp, adding that bulldozers began
to demolish houses in the outskirts of the camp and leveling them to the ground.

"A huge army that is considered as one of the strongest armies in the
Middle East is using all kinds of sophisticated weapons against a
minority of Palestinians who are defending their camp from the
Israelis," said Adnan.

In the Jenin refugee camp where there are about 15,000 people, the
residents said that so many bodies of Palestinians are scattered in the
streets and under rubbles of destroyed houses.

"They are committing a real massacre against the residents that is worse
than the massacre carried out against Palestinians in Sabra and Shatila
refugee camps in Lebanon in 1982," said Nasser Abu Baker from Jenin.

Adnan said that 15,000 Palestinians are locked into their houses and the
shells are falling on their houses, adding that whether they stay at
their homes or go out to the streets, "in both ways they will be killed."

Palestinian reporters said that senior Palestinian negotiator Saeb
Erekat contacted United States officials and urged them to call Israel
and end the offensive in Jenin "before a huge massacre is committed
against the residents."
