Washington, DC - In a November 20, 2002 letter from
the Office of the Secretary of the United States
Department of Health and Human Services, AIDS ORIGIN
researcher, Boyd E. Graves, J.D. has been given sixty
days to file suit in the U.S. federal court of his
choosing.
"The people have forced the right to sue the United
States over their "creation", "production" and
"proliferation" of HIV/AIDS through the secret,
federal virus development program, the U.S. Special
(AIDS) Virus program (1948 - 1978)." said Graves.
"The yearly progress reports of the secret program
provide the irrefutable narrative proof of the linkage
of experiment to the flowchart, "research logic" of
the African Holocaust. This best explains how Black
people account for 13% of the population and 50% of
all new AIDS cases."
Graves, a civil rights lawyer and decorated US Navy
veteran, filed a similar complaint with Ohio's federal
courts in 1998. After his 33 month legal battle and an
appeal to the US Supreme Court in 2001, Graves'
lawsuit finally prompted Congress to request an
investigation into the missing appropriations of the
secret federal virus development program Special Virus
through the US General Accounting Office.
The US government's official report was made public
following the terrorist attacks of September 11th and
was highly criticized as a 'total white-wash' by many
independent investigators, including Professor Robert
Lee and Harvard's Dr. Leonard G. Horowitz.
Graves and his supporters say they are confident the
evidence of the laboratory birth of AIDS is
irrefutable.
"We can show through the progress reports of the
secret program, that the original name of HIV was
ESP-1 virus, developed in accordance with the phases
of the flowchart." Graves said. "The United States
purposefully and intentionally, complemented the
"small pox" vaccine that went to Africa and the
"Hepatitis B" vaccine that was given to homosexuals
that the United States recruited for that purpose."
Graves said he is hopeful people support his efforts
by downloading the 1971 flow chart document from his
website www.boydgraves.com, and by writing to elected
and appointed health officials.

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Actress Winona Ryder was
sentenced on Friday to three years probation and ordered to
undergo psychological and drug counseling, bringing to close a
very non-routine shoplifting case.
In addition to the probation and counseling, Superior Court Judge
Elden Fox sentenced Ryder to perform 480 hours of community
service and to pay more than $10,000 in fines and restitution
following her conviction for stealing from the Beverly Hills,
California, Saks Fifth Avenue store last year.
Additionally, Fox chastised the actress, warning her that "If you
steal again, you will go to jail."
The two-time Academy Award nominee was convicted in November of
felony grand theft and vandalism for taking more than $5,500
worth of merchandise at the store last year.
"It is not my intention to make an example of you," Fox told
Ryder. But he said she had disappointed many people and she would
have to "confront certain issues" that led to her behavior. "You
have refused to accept personal responsibility," the judge told
Ryder.
Fox ordered Ryder to serve her community service by April 7,
saying she would have to spend 240 hours at City of Hope, 120
hours at the Foundation for the Junior Blind, and 120 hours at
the Caring for Babies With AIDS Foundation.
Ryder received a technical term of one day in jail but was given
credit for the day she was booked.
Ryder's press agent, in a statement released Friday, said,
"Winona Ryder accepts responsibility for what happened on
December 12, 2001, and continuously tried to resolve this case
without a trial. "She is thankful that the judge has allowed the
community service to enable her continued work with children."
Angry exchange
Friday's sentencing came after a fiery round of testimony by an
attorney for Saks Fifth Avenue, prosecutor Ann Rundle and Ryder's
lawyer, Mark Geragos.
Before announcing his ruling, the judge heard testimony from Ken
Metzner, an attorney for Saks, who criticized the actress'
conduct during the trial.
Metzner accused Ryder and her defense team of portraying the
actress to the public as the victim in the crimes when, in fact,
Saks and the employees involved in the shoplifting incident was
the true victim.
Those employees have been "subjected to intense and malicious
scrutiny simply because they had the misfortune of apprehending a
movie star thief," Metzner told the court.
Defense attorney Mark Geragos took issue with Metzner's depiction
and said Saks had benefited from the publicity, posting profits
in their most recent quarterly report.
Despite Saks' and the prosecution's claim that Ryder would be
treated no differently than any other shoplifting suspect,
Geragos said they had practiced character assassination before,
during and after the trial.
"I don't think that one crime should trump all the good she's
done in her life," Geragos said, citing Ryder's work with
American Indian causes and with the Polly Klaas Foundation for
missing children.
Geragos said that Polly Klaas' father, Mark, had wanted to speak
in Ryder's behalf before sentencing was announced, but had been
detained. Ryder had mounted a campaign to find the missing
12-year-old girl from Petaluma, California, and had offered a
reward of up to $1 million in the case.
Prosecutor Ann Rundle responded angrily to Geragos' charges that
Ryder had been treated unfairly and objected that the defense
attorney mentioned the child as part of a charatcer defense.
"What's offensive to me is to trot out the body of a dead child,"
the prosecutor began. "I've heard this for over a year."
Geragos objected loudly and Ryder rose partly from her seat,
tossing an icy glare toward the prosecutor. The judge admonished
Rundle to stick to the shoplifting case.
Actress said she believed she had account at store
The 31-year-old actress' now-infamous shopping trip on December
12, 2001, drew international headlines and was the fodder of
late-night talk show jokes. During her trial, jurors were shown
videotapes of Ryder wandering through the store's designer
boutiques and taking a large number of items into dressing rooms.
The tapes did not show Ryder cutting off sensor tags with
scissors, but a security guard testified she looked through door
slats and witnessed the vandalism.
Security staff personnel testified that after Ryder was caught,
she said a director had told her to shoplift to prepare for a
movie role.
Defense attorneys said that after Ryder's first purchase, the
actress believed the store would keep her account "open" and
charge her later. But there was no evidence of an account.
Earlier this week, prosecutors revealed that Ryder had eight
"narcotics" in her possession -- all medications legally
prescribed by doctors -- when she was arrested.
Transcripts made public after the trial disclosed that Ryder was
suspected of shoplifting from two other high-end department
stores in the past, but no charges were filed. Prosecutors were
not allowed to present those allegations during the trial.
Ryder, who began her film career as a teenager in 1986, earned
Academy Award nominations for "Little Women" and "The Age of
Innocence."

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Our lord and emperor George W. Bush has just tied together the
entire ball of 9/11 lies and related wax, stuck a wick in it, and
handed us the match. He has done so by appointing Henry Kissinger
chairman of the long-awaited "independent" commission to
investigate the Sept. 11 attacks.
To all those who want the unvarnished truth about the "Attack on
America," starting with the families of the victims, this would
have been a slap in the face - were it not so laughable.
Sequel to the Warren Commission
The resident of the White House was explicit in stating that the
commission is not supposed to actually investigate anything about
9/11. Wrote the Associated Press, "Bush did not set as a primary
goal for Kissinger to uncover mistakes or lapses of the
government that could have prevented the Sept. 11 attacks."
So what is Henry supposed to actually do? "Instead, [Bush] said
the panel should try to help the administration learn the tactics
and motives of the enemy."
Aha. In other words, the panel is supposed to produce more scary
stories about what the freedom-hating evildoers are planning to
do to us next. Sounds like overkill: Isn't that what every
department of the administration is already doing?
The Kissinger commission is being called to life nearly 15 months
after the attacks. The White House refused to sign off on the
investigative body, until Congress agreed to its conditions. The
panel can issue subpoenas only if the Republican members agree.
In the polite words of Stephen Push, a leader of the 9/11

So far, no surprise. For fifteen months, Bush and Cheney have
repeatedly acted to delay the calling of an independent 9/11
investigation. They have tried to stop the release of any
information about the attacks - let alone about their level of
prior knowledge! And they have otherwise established the most
secretive administration in modern American history.
But Henry Kissinger? Now that is a surprise!
Who could have imagined that the Bush regime would so obviously
expose themselves to ridicule by appointing one of the world's
best-known war criminals, terrorist masterminds, and professional
liars as the head of a New Warren Commission?
Highlights of Dr. Kissinger's Career
Kissinger's name seems to be magically entwined with the date of
Sept. 11th. As national security adviser and secretary of state
in the Nixon administration, he helped engineer the CIA coup that
overthrew the elected government of Chile, on Sept. 11, 1973. For

Kissinger made no secret of his utter contempt for democratic
government: "I don't see why we need to stand by and watch a

Now everyone remembers where they were on the morning of Sept.
11, 2001, though we know precious little about how and why the
horrible crimes of that day were allowed to happen. But who knows
that on the same morning, a federal suit was being filed against
Dr. Kissinger by relatives of one of his countless victims?

As a direct result of the Pinochet coup, at least 3,000 Chilean
civilians were "disappeared" and assassinated. As horrible as
that was, Kissinger has been involved in even worse crimes.
As Nixon's national security adviser, Kissinger helped plan the
"secret" bombing of Cambodia during the Vietnam War. Hundreds of
thousands of civilians were killed in this unprovoked action
against a neutral state. The bombing destabilized the U.S.-backed
Cambodian government, paving the way for the later takeover of
that country by the Khmer Rouge.
But hey, let's not let mass murder detract from the man's
achievements. In 1973, Kissinger won the Nobel Peace Prize for
reaching a deal to end the U.S. invasion of Vietnam.
The Nixon government had at first refused the Paris peace deal
with North Vietnam. Instead, it chose to level Hanoi in a massive
Christmas 1972 bombing, leaving nothing there but dust. A few
months later, Nixon and Kissinger accepted the same deal, with
minor changes. Now that's how you win a peace prize!
Kissinger was the only major cabinet member who miraculously
survived the subsequent fall of the Nixon regime. He remained
Secretary of State under the appointed Un-president, Gerald Ford.
(Ford was the first "president" to not have even run in a
presidential election, so there was no need to actually steal
it.)
Okay, class. Anyone remember who the other key players in the
2-1/2 year Ford administration were?
Vice President: Nelson Rockefeller, brother of David.
Chief of Staff: Dick Cheney.
Secretary of Defense: Donald Rumsfeld.
Director of Central Intelligence: George Herbert Walker Bush.
Hmmm...
Papa Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Kissinger. Sound familiar? Today,
the same four men run the regime of the Idiot Prince.
Now *there* is a story for the historians of the future! Papa
Bush apparently cut some nice deals with his CIA boys at the
time, and in gratitude the agency later named its new
headquarters the "George Herbert Walker Bush Building." We'll
leave the rest of the Papa Bush story aside for today, though it
may surpass even Kissinger's for sheer criminality. Today is
Henry's day.
In 1973, while still with the Nixon administration, Kissinger
became one of the founding fathers of the Trilateral Commission,
together with Zbigniew Brzezinski and David Rockefeller, brother
of Nelson. This association of billionaires, business leaders,
academics and politicians was brought together by the three men
in an effort to arm the global elites of the U.S., Europe and
Japan against what at the time seemed like an unprecedented
social and economic crisis. The Trilateral Commission has
continued to meet annually ever since.
In 1975, Kissinger travelled with Ford to Indonesia, where they
met with the U.S.-backed and U.S.-armed dictator Suharto, who
oversaw the killing of millions during his 35-year reign. The day
after Ford and Henry left, Indonesian forces invaded the
independent territory of East Timor.
One-third of the territory's population was exterminated during
the subsequent 20-year occupation, but this had little impact on
continuing American and Western arms shipments to the regime in
Jakarta. Recently released documents establish that Suharto
received a green light for the invasion from the President and
Secretary of State, and that’s Henry.
The 9/11 panel will not be the first "Kissinger Commission." In
the early 1980s, under the Reagan-Bush administration, Henry was
called to lead an investigation of U.S. policy in Central
America. They provided the whitewash for the death squads that
U.S. forces had armed and trained in El Salvador and Honduras,
and for the "Contra" army that was organized by the CIA to invade
Nicaragua.
Since then, the doctor has lived more quietly as the head of
Kissinger Associates, which provides "consultancy" (door-opening)
for oil and arms deals and much else besides, and which counts
among its clients the U.S. government, NATO, many corporations,
and foreign countries like China and Central Asia.
French prosecutors paid a surprise visit to Kissinger's Paris
hotel suite in 2001, questioning him with regard to the war
crimes charges that they would have been required to level under
French law. They let him go his way, but henceforth, Henry will
have to be a touch more discreet when strolling along the banks
of the Seine.
2001 saw the publication of Christopher Hitchens's book, "The
Trial of Henry Kissinger." Released in 2002, an eponymous
documentary details the man's horrific and astonishing crimes.
Couldn't Bush have found anyone less conspicuous, or less
farcical, to wash his dirty laundry? One can only conclude that
this was the only man the White House knew they could trust. If
you want to cover something up, better pick someone with tons of
his own dirt to hide.
Kissinger's appointment is an act of tremendous hubris - or else
of absolute desperation. Is the official story of the 9/11
attacks really so wobbly that the regime must resort to hiring
him?
He brought death squads to Chile in 1973. He covered up death
squads in Central America in the 1980s. And now should we expect
him to tell us the full story of how the CIA helped create Osama
Binladin's death squads? Is this guy who is going to explore why
the Air Force was stood down, or why and how so many FBI agents
were blocked from investigating reports that terror pilots had
infiltrated the United States? Or is Kissinger going to tell us
why George W. Bush killed the FBI investigations into the
Binladin family's connections to terrorism in early 2001?
Seriously. We can really have a field day with this.
But dangers lurk. Kissinger's appointment is the latest signal of
an absolute and open intent to play HARDBALL. Let us all beware
what sudden "surprises" are in store during the next days and
months.
Kissinger features prominently within the "Defense Policy Board"
run by Paul Wolfowitz at the Pentagon, which also includes
veteran warheads Richard Perle and Newt Gingrich.
These men, termed the "Wolfowitz Cabal" by no less a personage
than Colin Powell, are the Supreme Chickenhawks of the War Party.
For years they have individually and collectively called for the
(further) destruction of Iraq and, depending on their mood,
preemptive war with Iran, Syria, North Korea - you name it. At a
meeting earlier this year, they declared Saudi Arabia the real
enemy, and considered the option of taking out the Saudis right
after the planned war in Iraq. The powerpoint presentation viewed
by the group on that day concluded with the following grand
strategy for the upcoming war: "Iraq is the tactical pivot, Saudi
Arabia the strategic pivot, Egypt the prize."

On Sept. 11, 2001, as though that day was not bad enough for all
of us, Kissinger, who was in Berlin, called in to CNN during the
attacks. He basically argued that the attacks fully justified any
American response whatsoever. The next day, he wrote that the
U.S. had every right to destroy states that "harbor people who
have the capability to do something like this," emphasizing that
it made no difference whether these states actually had anything
to do with the Sept. 11 attacks or not.
So watch out for sudden revelations about the alleged 9/11
hijackers that "prove" both Saudi Arabia and Iraq (or any other
country) must immediately be crushed. The groundwork for such an
attack, should the regime decide to go with it, has been prepared
during the last weeks with the sudden "discovery" of Saudi
financing of terrorism - something that never bothered the Bushes
before 9/11, of course.
May fortune and God only give us enough time to work on this, and
we the people will peacefully bring down this regime. Appointing
Kissinger could turn out to be their greatest blunder. Perhaps it
will finally awaken the antiwar movement to the continuing
importance of learning the full truth of 9/11. No doubt many of
the antiwar organizers can well remember the early 1970s, when
their protests against the Vietnam War were directed at none
other than: Henry Kissinger. Why has he of all people been given
the 9/11 job?
We need to gather everything known about this man and throw it
hard and wide, until the whole sham of the investigation is
exposed. If we are given enough time, and still fail to bring
this house of lies crashing down, it will have been our own
fault.

Treasury secretary, top adviser leaving in major shakeup of
Bush's economic team.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill and Larry
Lindsey, the White House's top economic adviser, both resigned
Friday in a dramatic shakeup of the Bush administration's team
charged with reviving the nation's troubled economy.
No successors have been announced. Senior administration
officials told CNN that both men were asked to resign by the
White House.
While some measures show the U.S. economy growing again after
last year's brief recession, unemployment remains stubbornly
high, manufacturing is still struggling and the stock market
looks set to fall for the third year running, something that
hasn't happened since 1941.
The departures were announced after news that the U.S.
unemployment rate jumped unexpectedly to 6 percent in November,
matching an eight-year high set in April and highlighting the
problems with the economy.
"This confirms that the Bush economic plan is not working," Sen.
Kent Conrad, the North Dakota Democrat who is outgoing chairman
of the Senate budget committee, said in a statement.
"As the news this morning of increased joblessness and earlier
reports of exploding deficit and debt reveal, the president's
economic policy is a disaster. Obviously, the secretary of the
treasury and Mr. Lindsey are being sacrificed to protect the
president. Sadly, the removal of these economic officials will do
nothing if they are simply replaced with yes-men committed to the
president's relentlessly partisan agenda of pushing tax cuts at
the expense of all else."
O'Neill, the former CEO of Alcoa, and Lindsey, a former Federal
Reserve Governor and architect of the tax cut plan President Bush
ran on in 2000, are the second and third major members of the
administration's economics team to announce a departure in the
last four weeks. Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman
Harvey Pitt submitted his resignation on election night.

Small Aircraft Crashes Into Federal Reserve Bank Building in
Miami

MIAMI (AP) - A small plane crashed into the Federal Reserve Bank
Building Thursday night, killing the pilot and forcing the
evacuation of more than 100 people attending a holiday season
party, authorities said. No one inside the building was injured.
The plane approached the one-story building from the north and
struck the front of the building at 8:37 p.m., officials said.
The aircraft was described as a small single-engine plane,
possibly an experimental aircraft.
A fire broke out, but there appeared to be no structural damage
to the building. Some windows were broken and some charring was
seen. The building is about 3 miles west of Miami International
Airport.
"When we first came out of and walked around the side, it was
really hard to determine that it was a plane," said vice
president and branch manager Jay Curry, who was attending the
party at the time of the crash. The event was attended by current
and former directors of the bank.
Federal Reserve Bank spokesman Pierce Nelson in Atlanta said the
board of directors had met earlier Thursday and "no one in the
building was injured and our operations were not affected."
Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Laura Brown in
Washington said the crash appeared to be an accident.
Based on communications between the pilot and air traffic
controllers, Brown said the FAA believes the plane was coming
from Marathon, Fla., in the Florida Keys and traveling to New
Smyrna Beach on Florida's central East Coast.
"It appears the plane was not trying to land anywhere near Miami,
just flying near the airspace," Brown said.
Miami International is close by, but "typically this type of
plane would not be in this vicinity at this trajectory," said
Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue spokesman Louie Fernandez said. It
was too early to tell if the crash was deliberate, "but we're
going to examine every angle," he said.
Fernandez said he knew of no threats against the bank.
An FBI special agent assigned to Miami International was en route
to the accident and the agency was keeping in close contact with
investigators, said FBI Miami spokeswoman Judy Orihuela.
The National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating
the crash, said Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman
Kathleen Bergen.
The building also houses the Miami bureau of The Associated
Press. It is just north of the U.S. Southern Command, which
oversees U.S. military activities in 32 nations and 12
dependencies in Latin America and the Caribbean.

S.F. attorney: Bush allowed 9/11

Stanley Hilton now figures his case is stronger because of a
coalition of attorneys, victims' families and bipartisan
legislators who gathered in Washington on Monday to condemn the
government's lack of action in preventing the Sept. 11 attacks.
Hilton is the San Francisco attorney who filed a $7 billion
lawsuit in U.S. District Court on June 3 against President Bush
and other government officials for "allowing" the terrorist
attacks to occur.
Among Hilton's allegations: Bush conspired to create the
Sept. 11 attacks for his own political gain and has been using
Osama bin Laden as a scapegoat.
Hilton said he has information that bin Laden died several
years ago of kidney failure.
"I hope it will expose the fact that there are numbers of
people in the government, including Bush and his top assistants,
who wanted this to happen," Hilton said.
His class-action suit named 10 defendants, including Vice
President Dick Cheney, National Security Advisor Condoleezza
Rice, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, and Transportation
Secretary Norman Mineta. Hilton said he represents the families
of 14 victims and that 400 plaintiffs are involved nationwide.
Hilton, Sen. Bob Dole's former aide, has been publicly
critical of conservatives in books he has written about Dole and
the Clinton sex scandal. Hilton, who said he has sources within
the FBI, CIA, the National Security Agency and Naval
intelligence, demands Bush's impeachment and believes the truth
will come out in trial.
Hilton claims the Bush administration ignored intelligence
information, refused to round up suspected terrorists beforehand,
and during the hijackings refused to disable pilot controls and
switch to a ground-based remote system.
He claims the government benefited from installing a puppet
Afghan government friendly to U.S. oil interests.
Hilton also says Bush used bin Laden's antagonist image to
create a public frenzy, which allowed the Bush administration to
tighten its political grip.

Ex-Prosecutor Tells of Ties Between F.B.I. and Mob

BOSTON, Dec. 5, 2002 — A former United States attorney in Boston
told a Congressional committee today that he knew that some
gangland informers were committing murders and that their F.B.I.
handlers had become personally involved with them. But he said he
took no action because he was intimidated by the bureau.
"It would have precipitated World War III if I had tried to do
anything about F.B.I. informants," said the witness, Jeremiah T.
O'Sullivan, who was in charge of the New England Organized Crime
Strike Force and then United States attorney here in the 1970's
and 80's
In fact, Mr. O'Sullivan said, he once tried to sidestep the
Federal Bureau of Investigation by setting up an electronic bug
with the help of the Massachusetts state police in the
headquarters of James Bulger, known as Whitey, the leader of the
powerful Winter Hill gang. But the surveillance was soon
compromised, Mr. O'Sullivan said, most likely by an F.B.I. agent
who tipped off Mr. Bulger. Mr. Bulger had been recruited as an
F.B.I. informer.
After the bug was compromised, Mr. O'Sullivan told members of the
House Committee on Government Reform, the special agent in charge
of the F.B.I.'s Boston office, Lawrence Sarhatt, called him into
his office. "He yelled at me, cursed at me," Mr. O'Sullivan said
of the F.B.I. official. "He told me I should never have
cooperated with the state police."
"With the F.B.I, if you go against them, they will try to get
you," Mr. O'Sullivan said. "They'll cause major administrative
problems for me, as a prosecutor." Mr. O'Sullivan was actually
superior in rank inside the Justice Department to the Boston
F.B.I. agents.
The Committee on Government Reform, led by Representative Dan
Burton, Republican of Indiana, has been investigating how F.B.I.
agents in Boston became corrupted by recruiting underworld
informers in their war on the Mafia starting in the 1960's. Some
of the gangsters, notably Mr. Bulger and his deputy, Steven
Flemmi, regularly entertained their F.B.I. handlers or gave them
gifts, and the F.B.I. agents often provided them with
confidential information about government investigations against
them or names of other mobsters informing on them, according to
court testimony.
One of these F.B.I. agents, John J. Connolly Jr., was sentenced
to 10 years in prison in September for racketeering and
obstructing of justice. Prosecutors said Mr. Connolly essentially
became a member of Mr. Bulger's gang.
Mr. Bulger has been indicted in racketeering and involvement in
22 murders. But he disappeared in 1995 after Mr. Connolly tipped
him off to the secret indictment, according to testimony at Mr.
Connolly's trial. Mr. Bulger remains a fugitive and is on the
F.B.I.'s Ten Most Wanted List.
In separate testimony today, a Tulsa homicide detective, Mike
Huff, said the Tulsa County District Attorney has been
investigating a former Boston F.B.I. agent and is close to
indicting him for his involvement in the murder of a Tulsa
multimillionaire businessman, Roger Wheeler, on orders from Mr.
Bulger.
Sergeant Huff told the committee there was strong evidence that
H. Paul Rico, Mr. Connolly's predecessor in recruiting members of
the Winter Hill gang as F.B.I. informers, had provided critical
information used in Mr. Wheeler's killing. Mr. Rico was
subpoenaed by the committee last year and refused to testify,
taking his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.
Mr. Wheeler, then the chairman of the Telex Corporation, was shot
once between the eyes as he got in his car after playing golf at
the Southern Hills Country Club in 1981.
He was killed because he had learned that Mr. Bulger's gang was
skimming money from one of his businesses, World Jai Alai, which
ran gambling operations in Hartford and Miami, according to
testimony by the man who shot him, John Martorano. Mr. Rico was
in charge of security for World Jai Alai at the time of the
killing.
Sergeant Huff, who has investigated Mr. Wheeler's murder for 21
years, said, "The F.B.I. and the U.S. Attorney's office in Boston
did not help us with the investigation."
"We were lied to," Sargeant Huff said. "They had targeted the
Wheeler case to not get solved."
As a result, even though the F.B.I. in Boston knew Mr. Bulger was
involved in the killing, the information was not provided to the
Tulsa police. "The F.B.I. didn't want the embarrassment and
Connolly didn't want his house of cards to fall," Sergeant Huff
said.
David Wheeler, a son of Mr. Wheeler, also testified, saying,
"Forgotten in all of this are the people the agents are supposed
to serve — people like my father."
A question hanging over the hearing today was whether Whitey
Bulger's brother, William M. Bulger, the president of the
University of Massachusetts and the former president of the State
Senate, will testify on Friday. William Bulger has said very
little over the years about his older brother, insisting he knows
nothing about his criminal career.
But the committee has issued a subpoena for him to appear. Steven
Lynch, a Democratic representative on the committee who lives in
South Boston, the Bulgers' neighborhood, said it was unclear
whether Mr. Bulger would appear at all, or appear and plead his
Fifth Amendment right against compelled self-incrimination, or
try to fight testifying on some procedural grounds.
One person listening to the testimony today, in the Suffolk
County Courthouse, was Joseph Salvatti. In 1967 Mr. Salvatti was
sentenced to life in prison for a murder actually committed by an
F.B.I. informer, and the bureau allowed Mr. Salvatti and three
other men to be wrongly convicted, with the knowledge of J. Edgar
Hoover.
"It's hard to sit listening, knowing the F.B.I. and the U.S.
Attorney's office are lying, said Mr. Salvatti, who had his
sentence commuted after serving 30 years in prison. "The bottom
line is, they don't care."
