**Jury not able to agree beating was hate crime**
A Spokane jury could not agree Wednesday whether the beating of a black
man this summer at a pub was a hate crime. After a three-day trial in
Spokane County Superior Court, jurors deadlocked 10-2 in favor of
convicting Daniel Stout of malicious harassment on the basis of the
victim's race.

**Content of fliers was legal, lawyers say**
Attorneys for two former Miami University students accused of posting
racist and anti-gay fliers on campus said their clients' actions are legal
and protected by the First Amendment. Brad Allen, 22, of Shaker Heights,
and Nathaniel Snow, 22, of Cincinnati, are on trial in Butler County Area
I Court on misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief and criminal trespass.
They are accused of posting more than 50 racist and anti-gay messages in
the university's Center for Black Culture and Learning on Oct. 30, 1998,
that led to student demonstrations demanding a meeting with university
President James Garland.

fanny pack that held a 9 mm Glock pistol, as well as the
driver's license and credit cards of a man who had been found shot to
death a week before...The two men also are the prime suspects in the
arsons at three Sacramento synagogues June 18. They're also under
suspicion in the later fire at a building that houses a Sacramento
abortion clinic.

against homosexuality in Frederick County, Maryland on August

and hoods and asked recipients to join the KKK by mailing $30 to a post
