Would anyone on the list recommend a book on the history of the region
called Yugoslavia? Not the crappola from the Clinton Cartoon Network, but
something that would teach me the players, and the historical background of
the area.

A good, basic text is L.S. Stavrianos, _The Balkans since 1453_ (1958).
Although old, Ferdinand Schevill's _A History of the Balkan
Peninsula_(1922, reprint 1971) and William Miller, _The Ottoman Empire and
Its Successors, 1801-1927_ (1936) remain useful and informative.
