Hitler Secretary Recalls Dictator as Pleasant Man By DAVE GOLDINER Daily News Staff Writer dolf Hitler's secretary recalls the Nazi dictator as "a pleasant older gentleman" in a new documentary and insists she knew nothing of his plan to exterminate millions of Jews. Traudl Junge says she was awed by Hitler's magnetic personality and was later racked with guilt for falling under the spell of the "greatest criminal who ever lived." "I never had the feeling that he was consciously following criminal aims," said Junge, now 81 and in failing health. "No one ever spoke about [the Holocaust] — at least not in our presence." Junge is one of the last surviving members of Hitler's inner circle. She spoke to Austrian director Andre Heller for the movie "Blind Spot: Hitler's Secretary," which opened this week at the Berlin International Film Festival. Hitler was "friendly, with a soft voice," she recalled — completely different from the raging Nazi hate spewer she had seen in his speeches. Hitler and other Nazi leaders "practically never mentioned the word 'Jew'" during scores of meetings she attended, Junge said. The only reference to concentration camps came from SS chief Heinrich Himmler on a visit to Hitler's Bavarian Alpine retreat. Some of Junge's most vivid memories date to the chaotic collapse of the Nazi regime in 1945, when a delusional Hitler rode through the streets of Berlin with the curtains in his limousine drawn.
