The violence is being run by "Take the Streets Back," the Brit operation that ran the June 18 violence in the City of London, and Earth First and assorted eco-terrorists, who have been training for months outside of Arlington, Washington. The Center for the Study of Enivormental Change (CSEC), based at Lancaster University, has an important role. See also London "Sunday Times," Nov. 28, article titled, "British Anarchists Plan Seattle Riot." That was published, as I stated, on November 28. Otherwise, the conference itself is very factionalized. The French walked out of the agricultural talks today, for example. The continental Europeans are in revolt against globalization. Prime Minister Jospin, of France, has put out a pamphlet, to attack globablization! (I wonder where he got that idea?) Shroeder of Germany just broke with Blair, to save the second largest construction company, and did it again in Bavaria to save a steel mill. The head of the Central Bank of Italy, Fazio, is demanding a return to pre-1975 policies, when the state played a fundamental role in guiding economic affairs. The market place, by its nature, has no ethics, he points out; the state must insure the general welfare. The China deal with the US, prepatory to joining WTO is unfortunate, and won't hold water. Both sides are deluding themselves. China is desperate for peace and quiet, and does not see itself as a world power. It is bad, but may give way quickly, anyway, given the mini-Pearl Harbor (as Lyn calls is) which has hit in Europe. Ask again, if what I have said is not what you want. -Brian
