He made the remark after meeting with Macedonian President Kiro Gligorov. Clark said that he discussed with Gligorov the issue of increasing NATO troops in the country and the situation in Kosovo. He said that Macedonia has agreed to admit additional 14,000 NATO troops for peace- keeping mission in the southern Serbian province of Yugoslavia. If the situation turns complicated, the NATO troops can force their way into Kosovo without agreement from Yugoslavia, he threatened. With the new deployment, which Clark said will take several weeks to complete, the total NATO troops in Macedonia will amount to 30,000. He said that air strikes will continue until Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic accepts all the conditions set by NATO. U.S. President Bill Clinton announced Wednesday to send 7,000 U.S. soldiers to Macedonia, half of the additional 14,000 troops NATO has planned to deploy in the former republic of Yugoslavia. From Skopje, Clark flew to Tirana's Rinas Airport, "the hawk base" of NATO troops in Albania, to conduct his routine weekly visit.
