Nessie:

>You are suggesting that people behave selfishly.

In part, yes. I am suggesting that people take care of themselves. I do not
see this as a bad thing, but I do recognize that we have become conditioned
to believe it is.

> It is not in our best
>interest to do so. I suggest that we not scatter, but stick together and
>help each other.

I agree, but to the extent that *we* do not rely on the machinations of
government or financial institutions. Human unity does NOT require mass
capitulation. We can 'stick together' WITHOUT government.

> Cities are the safest place because that's where the most
>people are. Other people are who we turn to when we need help.

And cities are the only place to seek help from others? Have you forgotten
the rural communities which forged this nation (for better or worse :-))?

> Nobody is
>smart enough to make it through life with only one brain.

I wholly disagree, but I understand why you believe this.

> Other people are
>the most important thing in the world.

I agree. That's why I sent the post regarding final Y2K preparations. If I
hadn't cared, I wouldn't have taken the risk of incurring the wrath of the
mighty June :-)

>No matter what you need, you get
>it from other people.

Not necessarily:

>Want bread? See a baker.

Or bake your own as was done in this country for generations.

> Want flour? See a miller.

Or mill your own. Ever seen those fascinating structures called windmills :-)?

>Want wheat? See a farmer.

Or grow your own, as was done in this nation for generations.

>Other people are the key to survival. Stick
>together.

On this point, I can somewhat agree. There is greater potential for
survival in numbers.
