WASHINGTON, DC - Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle today proposed legislation that would drastically change the way Americans eat. Said Daschle, "Allowing Americans to eat whatever food they want is costing us Billions in healthcare expenses. Since Americans are constantly abusing their food choice freedom by eating foods that make them fat or cause cancer we have no choice but to take that freedom away for the good of the country." Under Daschele's New "American Dietary Reform Act" each American would be given a few Saltine Crackers, a multi-vitamin and their choice of Regular or Sparkling water to drink as part of a Government mandated diet program. All grocery stores, fast food joints, and restaurants would be shut down and it would become a crime to grow vegetables or raise poultry or cattle. Said Daschle, "It may seem drastic, but we can no longer afford to allow Americans to have the freedom to eat whatever they want. It is putting too great of a strain on our healthcare system." Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott blasted Daschle's 'Dietary Reform Act' claiming that it was the, "worst assualt on personal liberty that he has ever seen proposed in the United States." Said Lott, "If Mr. Daschele is concerned about the cost of taking care of people who suffer from diseases caused by their diets then why doesn't he propose that each American be responsible for his or her own healthcare costs rather than make all of us pay for their bills?"
