Three have been admitted to hospital. According to details, at midnight on November 11th, five Pakistanis who reached Pakistan after being released from Kabul Jail were Naveed ud Din and Misbah ud Din from Charsada, Bakht Zaman, Rashid Ahmed and Mohammad Iqbal from Sawat and Ghulam Yahya from Basham. These were medical students from Kabul University who were arrested on March 23, 2002 on their way back from the Pakistani embassy. The others who were released from Kabul are Jail Sharif ud Din from Quetta, Abdul Wahi from Islamabad, Mohammad Sharif from Khaniwal, Inayat Ali from Faisalabad, Mohammad Roz from Bara Khyber Agency, Mohammad Rafique from Dara Adam Khel, Abdul Ghafoor from Kohat. These men have lost their mental faculties. Miraj Din from Peshwar, Aziz ur Rehman from Sawabi and Mohammad Hussain from Rawalpindi have been admitted to the hospital due to severe mental condition. The rest are being kept in Landi Kotal Jail where they are being interrogated by the local authorities. While talking to the Daily Islam correspondent, the medical students said that five percent of those jailed in Kabul are those who didn’t go for Jihad. Some were traders, some students and some just visitors who were arrested only for the fact that they were Pakistanis. The torture they have to go through could be well judged by the condition of those ten of the released. The medical students went on to say “There were also 12-13 years old kids with us who were arrested from Kantar and were sentenced for one year and two years in prison. These boys just came to Afghanistan to cut wood. They were beaten with wire but when diplomatic measures for our release came, they were tortured less. Those who do not have any contact back home are severely tortured. Ten people were locked in a six foot room. We were served half peace of bread three times and taken out of the cell twice a day. People from Singapore, Uzbekistan and Tajikisatan were also imprisoned with us. When asked about the arab prisoners, the said only American interrogate from the Arabs. We were dealt by Afghanis and pushed to confess that we were ISI agents.” They said that government should also take measures for the release of those innocents prisoners in Kabul jail without any charges. Most of these are students, traders, religious scholars and people from other walks of life. www.ctrl.org DECLARATION & DISCLAIMER ========== CTRL is a discussion & informational exchange list.
