Proclamations of the King I guess I must be living on another planet than Vice- President Richard Cheney because the number of Executive Orders or "Proclamations of the King" as I prefer to call them seems to have increased over the recent years. To date, President Bush has made 56 of these proclamations in just over a years time, everything from designating Afghanistan as a combat zone to the Presidents Council on the 21st Century Workforce. So he is currently on pace for a number around 224 over a 4 year period. President Clinton made 364 over his years in office. George Bush made 166. Ronald Reagan made 381. Jimmy Carter made 320. Gerald Ford made 169. Richard Nixon made 346. LBJ made 324. JFK made 214. Dwight D. Eisenhower made 486. Harry Truman made 896. FDR made 3728. Herbert Hoover made 1011. (Source: National Archives and Records Administration, Federal Register, Executive Orders Disposition Tables; January 9, 1939-January 16, 2002) While it does appear that the number of EO's has decreased since the days of Truman, I would suggest that so many has been made already that the need for even more surely must be nearing it's limit. But no. It is easily discerned by our VP's line of thinking that even more government control, especially by the Executive Branch is needed to control the people. I strongly disagree. As Reported by Robert Novak at townhall.com, Jan 26, 2002: Ardent right-wingers who attend the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington Thursday through Saturday will not hear from Vice President Dick Cheney or Attorney General John Ashcroft. Both were listed as speakers in CPAC's advertisements, but neither will come. ....<snip>... Vice President Dick Cheney, usually silent at the weekly luncheons of Republican senators, spoke up last Wednesday to plea with them not to criticize his refusal to make public the secret records of his energy task force. Requesting time at the luncheon to say a few words, Cheney said he had in the course of his long government career seen a steady deterioration of presidential power. (emphasis mine)That's why he was so determined to fight congressional demands regarding the task force. Scott Chaney Muncie, Indiana *COPYRIGHT NOTICE** In accordance with Title 17 U. S. C.
