It is proposed that a semantic system developed by Hennessey [Tripartite Essentialism 1991] be used to classify small business activity and processes so that 'BOT-SEARCHES' can pertain to more specific aspects of Business Activity and Product. Eg. [for the business]; 'raw materials search' or a 'products and media search', or a 'qualitative evaluation of product on the market'. There follows by necessity a brief sketch of a larger body of academic research which outlines some of the discoveries and advances made. The physical side of the theory makes possible 5th generation artificial intelligence - a worldwide programme abandoned because current ontologies were inconsistent and failed to produce the 5th generation advances. The theory of threeness universally extends to incorporate the physical world also. As it does so - it makes several pre-conditions. 2.1. That the Universe is full of a diverse infinity of labels and classes etc but that such infinite diversity is made up of a small and limited set of atoms and functional processes. Eg. The infinite diversity of objects in the universe is derived from the limited and eventually closed set of the periodic table of chemistry. 2.2 That because our universe deals with three dimensions of matter and one of time - that those atoms and their interactive behaviour can be represented by the threeness of this theory - and that this results in a mathematically closed and logically complete set of events being able to account for every event in the universe. 2.3. The processes that make up each event are simply described in terms of 8bit boolean arithmetic. [eg. used in pc computing] 2.4. The whole system of relativity is based on the idea that we are dealing with how things function in relation to one another rather than an infinity of human labels - and that scale is unimportant. 2.5. This relativity of function takes descriptions of systems/events into empirical measurements and laws. 2.6 Every system, it is here proposed, has a core of components, a system of mechanics which deploys these components to some qualitative result, in relation to some context in which it is operating. ie. Every physical system is also three part. 2.7. Because of such threeness in the physical and empirical world, which also substantiates the world of labels - this universal way of looking at things can add a completely new richness and complexity of meaning to the simplest of boolean arithmetical processes on an 8bit computer chip. 2.8. It is here contended that no matter what the cosmic scale of a system; whether star or virus or tree - this threeness theory can adequately describe all events and processes of their functional aspects. [not their diversity of labels] 2.9. This leads to the leap into 5th Generation Artificial Intelligence - ie. That isomorphism between domains can be achieved. Oversimplified Eg. The domains; star, tree, virus - have standard empirical catgeories eg. wattage of; Eg. 3-5 gigabillion watts, 3-5 watts, 0.000003-0.000005 watts There is an unknown system/process in the tree that occurs around 4 watts - data may be consulted in stars at around 4gigabillion watts and viruses at 0.000004 watts and deductions inferred about the unknown process and a model of it constructed. ______________________________________________________________ The physical theory of threeness has detailed and definitive descriptions in philosophy of math, mind, science etc but that this document is intended to convey the idea that there exists a model of 5th generation artificial intelligence which has not yet been evaluated. - I propose that though the worlds leading AI experts may have partially abandoned the quest for 5th generation AI and logic at this time, that this model requires evaluation - for it may be a solution to the problem. It may eventually lead to a completely new platform for executive artificial intelligence that is economically efficient and also simplify the agenda for technological development and reduce the need for long term investment. Eg. The prototype of this very complex artificial intelligence could technically be based on an old pentium or 486 computer chip ! Preliminary Conclusion. This universal model is ontologically viable when dealing with language and semantics, empirical data and physical processes and can be programmed. The paper will next look closely at this Knowledge Representation System and the processes by which it can be mathematically recorded in the empirical world - then finally move into a tripartite theory of mind which can provide a mathematical platform to enable the human mind and machine to integrate. 1. TRIPARTITE ESSENTIALISM ABSTRACT 1. The Cosmos is in a state of flux 2. A transfer of energy between two points or systems via a common intervening medium is a process called Osmosis. [a Universal state of affairs] 3. The most basic of an infinite number of transfers of energy in the Cosmos of 3 dimensions of space and one of time is between two systems. 4. This basic transfer can be modeled in several ways. a. Osmosis. ie. The diffusion of a high concentration to an area of lower concentration through a semi-permeable membrane. b. As a metaphysically continuous extension of one system into another, where the second system 'Emerges' out of the potential created by the activity of the first. eg. Morphogenetic Attractor, Evolutionary Vacancy c. The relationship between the two systems can be empirically modeled by an inverse square power law ie. The more one system increases in magnitude, the more the effect of the other system diminishes in turn. d. by a binary and tripartite arithmetic, where system A, system B and the common medium system C have a holistic relativity which can be represented as efficacious by 1's or 0's denoting on/off, extant/disabled At any time 1, there can be eight essential states of that Tripartite Relativity. These 'essences' or 'atomic state descriptions' at time 2 can be any of the other eight. The number of possibilities for changes of state is modeled by a closed set of 64. When the 64 transitions of state are tabulated by placing non-efficacious relativity or chaos or non-structure in sequence with time, we end up with a metaphysical model of the activity of elements in the periodic table of chemistry, where top left, the reactive elements, bottom right the most structured, and in the middle, transitional states which are complex. Mathematical modeling of spontaneous emergence for artificial life experiments [Langton 1992] with the same arithmetic criteria as these essences produce the same Periodic Table of states. From this metaphysics can be derived an Octal Arithmetic with an unusual concept of zero, for zero in this system has substance, ie. Three substances which are not relating at a given moment efficaciously - but which also are 'something' in relation to a given context - ie. There is no absolute zero. e. Semantic model. System1 is denoted 'Macro', it is the umbrella of basic constituents and energy source from which emerges an energy transfer. Eg. the Sun this energy is then processed by the intervening system, denoted 'Meso' which has Structure and Mechanics eg. grass, that acts on system2 eg. cow, the 'Micro', which is the Evolutionary Asset or product of this chain of relativity. The cow is considered an evolutionary asset in some 'Context', eg. human/sociological. This chain of relativity has given a general evolutionary opportunity for a herbivore. f. Dr Plichta's model of Tripartite Relativity isbn 1-86204-014-1, pub element 1997 demonstrates that 3'ness is an archetypal and a priori state with the mathematics of prime numbers, and demonstrates that Structure evolves out of mathematical chaos. 5. Order spontaneously emerges out of Chaos - a Natural Law 6. The Cosmos and its energies are in a state of Chaos, and emerge systems that are ordered, but all energy and all matter and all time have the characteristics of Chaos - they are Non-Linear, both in the Macrocosm and the Microcosm. 7. The properties of matter modeled here, are Telic - end based and suggests that Emergence doesn't stop at causing system 2, but that successive systems emerge as part of an ongoing process. 8. Entropy and demergence are part of this dualistic process of construction and destruction, but it is suggested that this process of expansion and contraction occurs around a tendency to equilibrium eg. the elements of Chemistry tend to transitional equilibrium states. These states may also be considered to be Complex states at the Edge of Chaos and the Edge of Structure. 9. The heresy of a claim to Essences is that of unfalsifiable Absolute Truth of at least a synthetic a priori nature. 10. There is a Completeness Proof in formal logic for the set of Essences. 11. This is a closed set of 64 Logically Real atoms called the Language 'T' 12. There is also a Complete set of 729 atoms that include undecided states this is called the Language 'A' and is a form of Modal Logic which is formally complete. 13. Tripartite Essentialism states that there is Limited Independent Variety THE TRIPARTITE PRINCIPLE. >From a set of simple rules, and using the strong analogies generated, this holistic paradigm proposes many sought after answers eg. to Universal Knowledge Representation - for robotics, and for particle physics; a sort of superglue formula which modifies Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity, and identifies new relationships within the universal ergosystem The format is a Tripartite system - a way of seeing relativity and function in a holistic and also logical way. To introduce it - the idea is a Universal Ohm's Law. >From within an umbrella of potential eg. the potential difference between one site/event and another, energy passes/diffuses/discharges from a site of higher energy to one of lower energy and by that process creating the potential for another emergent system. Before exploring the broad remit of teleological processes now enabled by the perspective of Tripartite Essentialism, we must first formally classify Tripartite Essentialism within the Philosophy of Science. Tripartite Essentialism is based upon the field theory notion that there is a continuous relation between one system and another. To add to this idea is the notion of Emergence, where one less sophisticated system by its holistic action produces - [emerges] another more sophistictaed system. This is accomplished by the transference of energy from the lesser evolved system to a site of competition with another system in the same context. The product of this transference of energy or discharge is some system or artefact that is said to have emerged or filled the vacancy created by evolution and competition. In America at the Santa Fe Institute, the biological implications of this 'vacancy' were labelled as 'Morphogenetic Attractors'. This discharge or current occurs through a medium which offers resistance. There are three broad types of discharge. The 'electricity' of this discharge varies in the 8 teleological classes; where the alpha class ie. idioms 1-3 convey energy as photons, the beta class ie. idioms 4&5 where energy is bound up in and invested in mechanics of an organic nature and the 'electricity' of the discharge between two poles becomes invested in systems more teleologically sophisticated than a mere trail of electrons. The gamma class, idioms 6-8, employ the two previous types of 'Voltage' but also includes the additional teleological sophistication of energy being further abstracted and manipulated by types of artefact or information systems. Easily measured in a simple format - as electricity, this tripartite format is known in more complex, compound and crystallised energy substrates/matter - eg. in psychological systems, which are relatively abstract systems (in comparison with a copper wire), the discharge of motivation has been measured by Lewin [1925] - unconsciously using a Tripartite principle. Kurt Lewin has developed this as a 'Field Theory in Psychology'. In Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity, this 'electricity' becomes the value of the speed of light, where the Resistance - or 'Interval' becomes a value of the conductivity of the physical universe as observable in this locality. Perhaps the reason Einstein searched in vain for an ultimate answer was because of the lack of context dependency he attributed to the behaviour of sub atomic particles. The case for Tripartite Essentialism in the Philosophy of Science is presented as follows: The trigram is a basic representation of a metaphysically continuous relationship between any two systems: denoting the validity of a discharge of energy from one system of a higher, to another of a lower potential through a common substrate. Whatever the symbol set used to denote the three categories - it can be a whole line or broken line, 1 or 0 or some other; The upper line is to be denoted Macro which represents the origin of the discharge: from the most basic ingredients or substrate. The middle line, denoted Meso, represents the substrate through which the discharge takes place, a system more developed than the macro, but less emergent in sophistication than the Micro. The micro [holistically] extends into some other Macro of another system in the context (Macro 2). This extension can be regarded as deterministic relativity in continuous operation - [cf. Fractal] an evolutionary result of one system becoming the foundations of a different - but contextually related second system. The Micro, the bottom line, represents the site of discharge of the macro. It is a more teleologically sophisticated ergonomic system and structure which emerges and evolves to exploit macro2. Macro1, the macro or umbrella is the basic backdrop under whose auspices the possibility of further related relativity emerges - the most basic and extensive set of ingredients. The relativity between macro1 and macro2 can be described by a power law called the inverse square law U @ 1/R Where U represents the Utility of macro1, inversely related to the resistance that macro2 is putting up. This is a unifying and universal equation seen in gravity, particle dynamics, cycling in ecosystems (predator/prey relativity), deterioration with distance of all sorts of electromagnetic phenomenon in three dimensions, and most obviously described by Ohm's Law. Where V or voltage represents the energy potential difference between macro1 and macro2. R, represents the resistance of the intervening substrate, (meso) to the passage of the discharge , and the evolutionary asset (Micro) is the amount of energy delivered to the site of competition where evolution works itself out at the boundary between two different systems - The energy carried through system1 discharges at macro2. (I) MACRO=V, MESO=R, MICRO=I In Biological conditions, this equation sounds like, 'If the V, food and conditions are good, the physical difficulties of properties in the landscape R, ie. its topography disposition and systematic organisation etc. [meso], diminish : and the evolutionary asset is an increased population I. In physics, 'As the distance between two particles diminish, the potential for 'discharge' V, increase in proportion eg. gravity at a rate (Einstein fixed at the speed of light) in context with the sub atomic body [SAB] and the various sets and classes of phenomenon that make up the sub atomic substrate R. (This is the meso) - and, the [micro, the] amount of time involved in the collision and the extant properties of the substrate macro, is the evolutionary and emergent property of the combination I. In fixing the speed of light c at a constant, Einstein was basically maintaining that in all electrical systems, resistance and current are fixed. [we can hypothesise here that ether/resistance may vary the speed of light] They may actually be fixed however in ANY GIVEN CONTEXT. There follows a Sentential Logic depiction of the formation of Tripartite Essences. The macro is the substrate S from which the discharge towards emergence E occurs in the context T of time and space. At the next telic level of organisation, this extant ergonomic system becomes aligned A in time and space with a format evolved from S and the context T. The system comprising S, A and T further evolves at t2, when it either competes, emerges and improves its parameters Ez in context T, or fails. (t1-t2) The Linguistic tuple of noun, verb and adjective are directly related to the Tripartite Essentialist ideological framework: where macro is the noun, that is, the ingredients' system and its fabric. meso would be the verb, that is how the fabric is deployed in an active and existential sense, and the micro would be the adjective, that is how the system would be depicted, its qualitative performance in relation to some other system macro2. 000, 001, 010, 011, 100, 101, 110, 111 > depict all the states of functional integrity at time1, however there are 8 times 8 possible state descriptions with time. Eg. 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 001 010 011 100 101 110 111 001 001 001 001 001 001 001 001 000 001 010 011 100 101 110 111 010 010 010 010 010 010 010 010 000 001 010 011 100 101 110 111 ..... etc [there are 64 such sixes within this Closed and Limited set.] This Logically/Formally Complete set of functional relativity/ events: can be depicted as a Periodic Table of Energies [PTE] and as a simple model of the presence of chaos and structure - could be a simple 'Instrumentalist analogy' cf. Duhem, to the Periodic table of Chemistry etc. The synthesis of a priori fact in Tripartite Essentialism is a Phenomenological event, but the essential relativity of such events belongs to a Logically Complete and closed set of relativistic functions - and those functions are responsible for the fact of the noun and its ingredients. The epistomological status of Tripartite Relativity and its one basic 'law' ie. the inverse square law comes from a continuous relation between the components of the 3part system and their context: a discontinuous relation in this sense is a reductio, since it implies no relativity and hence no measurement or phenomenon. All materials generated by Tripartite Essentialist formalism belong to the one basic set of 64 atomic events which physically increment by gradual 64 transitions to the greatest level of structure at 64. The metaphysical distinction between the materials of essence and space is that Tripartite Essentialism is a field theory, where a powers system is in continuous relation. In metaphysics, to categorise Tripartite Essentialism with the three main types of individual, produces a bit of a quandry, for [TRE] embraces all three types. The set of 64 Essential events and members are constituted Parmenidean individuals: changeless, permanent entities. The atomic stance that entails from this is that change can only come through their rearrangement. The Heraclitean (phenomenalist) and Aristotelian aspects of Tripartite Essentialism come from the Emergent and Demergent properties of energy, structure and chaos: - where Heraclitean arrangements of the Parmenidean (atomic) set of 64 can be fleeting and ephemeral, or persist longer (Aristotle). The emergence of structures for nothing from the Heraclitean 'fires' as it were is described by the generative theory of causality. Where the cause is supposed to have the power to generate the effect and is connected to it. Such cause in [TRE] has a natural law as an internal relation. Whereas the succession theory of causality would hold that the phenomena observed are psychological synthesis, the a priori element of the Tripartite atom creates a real connection between cause and effect and that this can be identified by a causal mechanism eg. using Ohm's Law, a light bulb, and the application of a potential difference in energy relativity between the filament. The Primary quality of Tripartite Essentialism is energy flux. The ergonomic status of all systems is not fixed and is subject to change or the rearrangement of the sets of atoms that comprise the system. The phenomenon of change gives rise to the secondary qualities associated with the Primary quality of flux. For example the primary quality of Ohms Law generates the secondary quality of light and heat. The emergent properties of flux can be defined in terms of the property of the whole being produced by the properties of the parts, and that these emergent holistic properties derive from the whole structure. The set of 64 basic ergonomic atoms in Tripartite Essentialism could be referred to as a Corpuscularian system with one important distinction. These systems are said to result from one substance ie. binary substrate, and change is possible because it is divided into units or hexagrams which are capable of motion and hence rearrangement. EXAMPLES OF TRIPARTITE RELATIVITY . The Universal Power Law upon which [TRE] is based can be translated into any physical and ergonomic medium in which relativity subsists. Eg. Kurt Lewin's 'Field Theory in Psychology' In electronics and physics, generally speaking, a potential ergonomic difference (Voltage) between two systems resolves itself in a discharge of energy (Amperage) through a common and shared medium, whose physical resistance to the discharge of energy, caused by the orientation of the atomic superstructure, causes an attenuation of the energy stream in the course of its passage to a site of discharge of lower potential than the Ergonomic Macro from which the relativity 'Emerged'. Using the same considerations, the attenuation of discharged Emergent energies are treated in a more sophisticated manner by the more evolved organic systems whose advances incorporate a more diverse range of evolved minerals, the evolutionary priorities of which are biochemical. The discharge of energies through these systems has become more a stream of evolved 'products', or energies which have crystallised or evolved into a more sophisticated format. Immanuel Kant, whose Critique of Teleology will be tackled in the next chapter, is one of the philosophers who did not recognise that Biological systems had an intrinsic physical order that was part of the one basic ergonomic and evolutionary hierarchy - and who drew the line of demarcation between the a priori knowledge of physics and mathematics and the messy biological stuff, whose aesthetic appeal seemed to delude us into thinking that it all made properly constituted mathematical sense simply because we had an expectation that it did so. Today, however, it has become more important to develop a unified ergonomic strategy with which to chart the cosmos, and the new theories of Complexity and Emergence, and [TRE] (1990), have given us an important insight into the behaviour of ergonomics in the more complex systems where energy flow is invested in a complex hierarchy of 'Morphogenetic Attractors', or, as [TRE] would have it 'Evolutionary Vacancies'. The idea being that in chaos relativity, structure is produced out of the supply and demand relativity between various systems - ie. systems produce niches and the ingredients to fill them. As a discharge of potential is involved in ergonomic relativity, and that discharge is mediated and attenuated by some other system or set of related systems between the origination and the destination of the discharge, such a universal process could be called Ergonomic Osmosis. Osmosis is a biological term used to describe the active transport of salts from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration through a semi-permeable membrane. The basic premise is that any system is a 'membrane' between two others. This meso role identifies the membrane as the attenuating artefact in the process. The structure and mechanics of which pass on the 'discharge' to the site of systemic competition. Energy flowing into or being fed into the locus of components that comprise a Tripartite system finds a condition of impedence to its flow; where the original stream becomes transmuted or metabolised into those substances or effects which maintain the system's function, whether biological or physical. Given a consistent, qualitative flow, the structure can specialise on the resources of its input to exploit systems ever more different and incongruous to the energy system from which it emerged. This factor is dependent on the stress imposed externally at the site of competition between this system and its context and the competing context into which the ergonomic 'discharge' is directed - for example in the story of the prehistoric evolution of amphibians where the developing respiratory mechanism of the organism enabled the exploitation of new habitat and context on the shore - this adaptation, initially, may have often failed under the critical stress of lack of humidity and high temperature. In using biological concepts as tools to interpret more general physical systems, it becomes easier to visualise Tripartite systems living in habitats, eating, metabolising and competing in a world readily accessible to the senses, and in this way, the energy that is being processed and competed for, may be more easily tracked in terms of a biological analogy through the very accessible concept of organic holism. A system becomes a system when a group of components are used consistently to receive and process energy. If consistency develops, it is because there is a context or input which caters for the collective needs of this group of components. In the macrocosm, eg. in a fish, after feeding, the organs metabolise the input and distribute the metabolites to every part of the organisation/organism where they are used in the process of growth/competition or maintenance. Speaking more abstractly; this structure and mechanics or supporting mechanism/metabolism is an energy-distribution infrastructure, as much seen in civilisation as it is at the superphysical level. In treating Civilisation as part of the set of Organic Holism, it too has a brick and mortar body powered by the metabolite of electricity obtained in the competitive jungle of Capitalism. The context of a Civilisation is its minerals, resources and materials and the processing capacity of the system itself is dependent on the efficiency with which raw materials are exploited eg. farming, mining, factory and processing technology. The 'heart' of the nuclear reactor, pumps sustenance along the veins and arteries of its power cables, and cognisant ganglia of the stock exchanges allocate lines of trade and communication, where secondary Capital metabolites are shipped through the enormous organic system of the infrastructure in a quest for sustained growth and competition for available resources according to stimulii or Labour Market Intelligence. As in a biological system, the technological system processes and reprocesses raw input through a chain of useful and cumulative effects, investing time, capital and utility in these metabolic products. The evolutionary assets of a Civilisation are information based, where the management and control of information leads through policy and science to the maximisation of output, for the minimum of input. Sustained growth/metabolism, a necessity in an entropic ergosphere can only be maintained by the maximisation of inputs as a whole, and since the power law (to be illustrated later) is involved in the demographic and ergonomic cycles of growth and decay, the exponential demand on resources made by exponential consumption can only be maintained by correct and competitive scientific advance. At this level of complexity, the Osmosis analogy includes many more sets of artefacts, systems and formats into which the energy discharge of the context macro has been encoded. Here are a few more examples of Tripartite Relativity . (ie. Three parts and a context ie. Context and Macro: CMacro, Meso, Micro.) Food, has as its context the Sun, which powers the green cycle and turns the available Carbon, Nitrogen and Phosphor into Carbohydrate Sugars and oxygen. This series of trophic and vegetational cycles produce a complex ecosystem and food web from which is extracted for the benefits of the gastronomical structure and mechanics of Man, energy packets of variable relative quality and quantity. A kitchen receptacle, when examined holistically with Tripartite Relativity has a macro or function which suits it for the context of the kitchen in design and purpose. The size of the bowl, the energy of the umbrella that it provides to sustain its utility - the macro or utility for the conveyance of fruit. The Meso of the bowl is basically its components and structural constituents, and the Micro of the bowl, basically, its evolutionary assets are its qualitative aspects eg. if the purpose of the bowl was solely general utility, then plastic is an asset to enable continuity of function; if however, its quality is not selecting it to attain conditions of continual use eg. porcelain bowl at a banquet may be more acceptable, then the Micro of the bowl is dependent on context conditions and the amount of psychological pressure its system can 'bring to bear' or weather in the selection process. The cupboard should, like the bowl, be seen in terms of the function that makes it a specific type of cupboard, and not necessarily seen in terms of the energies of its manufacture. (The cupboard is the end product (Micro) of a Sawmill (Meso) that manufactures to differing qualities from forests (Macro). Te context of the cupboard per se would be its overall capacity to perform its container function of holding utensils eg. bowl. Its Meso would be its structural arrangements and partitioning and fitments and the evolutionary assets or qualitative aspects - Micro, would be the difference between Oak and Hardboard, plastic and brass. A record player has a Macro of electricity, capital and the context and function of an information transformer. The Meso or structure and mechanics of the hardware would have a qualitative aspect of HiFi. A Book has as its context its topic and a Macro determined by the information formats and ingredients of its source, Its Meso or structure and mechanics are the ideologies or idea formats that collate and relate it to the general purpose and function of the book. Whereas the evolutionary asset of the book, its Micro, would be how effective and intelligent an ideological tool it was for the exploitation of the resources of the context to which its main premise was applied. A lampost has as its context, the illumination of infrastructure for the purposes of efficient society etc, and as a Macro both the capital of taxation and the power of electricity, its Meso is the structure and components of the object itself, and its qualitative aspects are mainly aesthetic in relation to how much light it provides, how high and the quality of both structure and function. A Home has as its context the housing of a family unit for the purposes of labour maintenance within the context of the infrastructure - the family or Macro will maintain the input of capital, fuel, energies, supermarkets, reservoirs, petrol, and these will be utilised by the structure and mechanics of the social context to be invested in maintaining and sustaining the fabric and quality of the social environment. The Qualitative aspects are related to capital input, class and other types of ideology (aesthetic). These prior examples are capable of being mechanised by a simple algebraic format which can illustrate the relationships involved. This example is of a simple Homeostatic mechanism dependent on the qualitative aspects of the competitive Micro in its exploitation of the Context from which it is deriving its sustenance. The example illustrates how the 'World' refines itself to provide the context in which a (fish) may evolve .. The world, made up of many components representing land; elements and variously derived systems that will contribute to the oceanic system. From this Pedosphere, rivers drain, precipitation of solvents, boundaries of various mineral strata and rocks etc mark the junction or estuary where the concentrated presence of all the microfactors that feed the sea is sent to provide the ingredients or context for our fish. In effect, the coast has acted like a vast membrane between the context of the land and the context of the sea. From which, the various factors and co-factors useful to the promotion and creation of an evolutionary vacancy for the fish precipitate into the ocean from another exogenous system (Unified at a global organic level by an interdependency of the same components eg. Carbon, Oxygen, Nutrient Minerals, Water etc) The diluting body of water separates from the high concentration of salts, biomass, bases etc injected by the rivers, the substances that will provide in some form, the energy source of the fish. This input is further processed by other organic and inorganic processes in the ocean - and some factors eg. salts may be bound up by Calcium Sulphate in Plankton and may be precipitated out of the system as sediment, or, these factors may be consumed and passed, usefully processed, to some other tier of the food chain. At this stage, the original microfactors may have found their way into the production of many useful nutrients and co- factors. These may either contribute to the food factors in the macro of the fish, or may be precipitated out through other cycles less useful to the context and environment of the fish. A similar complexity of changes is reflected in the algebraic model. taking the algebraic model as a useful archetype, it may again be applied to the system of the fish.. The energy source of the fish is the system of microfactors supplied by the land, sifted and specialised to augment life - or death. Where these factors become the energy source of the fish, the organism itself has a demand for those ingredients and products it has evolved with. The organism is thus surrounded by or has evolved into that immediate environment which can fulfill its needs. (That environment is a Morphogenetic Attractor). The Macro of the fish, then, supplies the structure and mechanics (Meso) with the nutrients that it is currently evolved to process; and through various energy exchange mechanisms or meso's/membranes or biochemical pathways, the essence of what is vital for life, evolution and adaptation is conveyed in various stages to the Micro, where those evolutionary assets are employed or cancelled in the struggle with the context environment (Q). The following narrative relates the behaviour of the algebraic model with reference to syntax. 1. The niche that provides the context to contain this organism/organisation/system is represented by various factors or groups of letters. Those factors directly used by the organism are ASB(E) or food and energy input to the Energy Gathering Mechanism VN. 2. The Meso - processing E (Evolutionary Advantage) for use at Q. ASB takes E - Evolutionary Advantage forward. 3. Paying a toll of (B) at a membrane (P) for the furtherance of AS(E). 4. The toll (B), paid, mechanism P - the site of the toll brings and enables a carrier mechanism RV(T) to bind AS(E) and convey it down pathways that demand it. 5. Part (T) of RV(T) can only take AS(E) forward if it can locate its binary receptor mechanism RV(Y). T and Y are mutually attracted, however Y is a resource which is only produced when the organism as a whole is competing well with 'exogeny' ie. the contect at factor Q - where Q is a chaotic energy demand that affects the integrity of organism Z. 6. Thus when Z is doing well, Y enables the progress of AS(E). Y represents the potential exhaustion has to debilitate the organism to a state of extinction, making the quality of substance of Z, reserves etc. an important factor in surviving the competitive stress of Q. Q on the other hand represents the freedom of external factors to interfere with the evolution of a system. 7. With Y present, AS(E) is taken to and bonded to mechanism W which further filters out RV. The number of exchanges from one mechanism to another represent, here, the increasing complexity which binds and processes, refines and directs food/energy input into the specialised compartment of the Micro which is interphasing with the environmental competition. 8. 'Food' factor (AS) is then expended to convey (E) - Evolutionary Advantage to the Micro or Assets of the organism - enabling Z to hold its own, And where Z has advantage over Q, it produces Y - its potential for continued survival. This process of natural selection may be illustrated at work in the story of the dinosaur .. where supported by the body of energies that comprised the atmosphere and its trophic range - under this umbrella it flourished, finding a tolerable equilibrium between air temperature, body temperature and energy consumption. The dinosaur lost energy to the atmosphere in an exchange or toll paid at a comfortable rate. When the climate changed and the air grew colder, the biological identity of the reptile could not support the massive heat loss and the increased toll, which made greater demands on its energy reserves than it could cope with. With no new equilibrium between the cold weather and the biology of the dinosaur being possible the only other outcome was extinction. ie. the toll of Q was too much for Z to sustain. ***************************************************** PART 3 A TRIPARTITE THEORY OF MIND & MACHINE >From the mechanics of threes in the natural world and its empirical models, its algebra, logic and maths - we have seen how this tripartite model is an integral law of the Cosmos. The simple tripartite mechanics begin to lay a solid foundation of computable mathematics upon any process no matter how complex we initially saw it - simply because we are dealing with limited but universal mechanics and processes that are operating within all objects - independently of an infinity of labels. To extend this tripartite Physical Theory into a new Philosophy of Mind would enable the mind to become a computable domain. How the process works is that upon the basic young nets or platform, intrinsically related to the grass roots of 'instinct' or 'Freudian Id' or feeding metabolism etc is built layer upon layer of complex associations and firing patterns, such that all thought is labelled and encoded as relative intensities of sexual or hunger or sensory stimulation amongst the many billions of combinations of firing patterns possible. The brain works by encoding the world of data and hard logical shapes and precise lines 'allegedly' and precise circles 'allegedly' and arithmetic and language and memory and visual imagery as sensory analogues. Thus a cup could be stored as 'That hot and painful and heavy, sometimes cold and light thing which alleviates receptor tension in the throat and sometimes in the belly which feels smooth and wet and has to be balanced and tipped and steady not shaky thing that smells nice ..!' The linear scientist would then argue that the brain is aware of millions of facts and that to store them all as such long strings of information would take more storage space than fifty of the biggest computers on the planet. If, however, that this is the case, the Cognitive Science model, therefore must be well and truly buried, presumably under a mountain of linear print out. But to be helpful, the two key concepts are: 1. A Parallel process. 2. Compression of Data, rather like the archiving facility of a computer, although the correct analogy isn't obvious. For instance, an associative definition of Bath would utilise most of the Cup sensory analogues and firing patterns but also might add the connotation of bitter taste and hot all over and very relaxing and sleepy. Such analogues are directly related to biological activity. It is not expected that any one firing pattern which comprises a specific thought is localised in a patch of cells for instance, but rather is globally spread out in three dimensional space, where, rather like the Constellations in the night sky, areas of nets are triggered in various localities to produce the recall of a Cup. For each 'thought' there would be a different constellation eg. A Cup and a Bath could be 'Ursa Minor' and 'Ursa Major' ! The problem a Linear scientist would have with this idea, is that things appear not to be travelling in straight lines - unless one could join the dots, yet this rationale has nothing to do with the scientifically and allegedly rationally decontextualised world in which we live. A world where a three dimensional particle needs to be rationally justified in 26 dimensions of mathematical absurdity. What makes this Mind Model work is Emergence, and Harmonics, in fact practically the same rationale as Harmonic Continuum Theory. >From these three dimensional contexts of constellations which are comprised of firing patterns or areas all encoding for approximately the same kind of object-physiology association Emerge harmonic standing waves - rather like the particles in [HCT] and these temporal artefacts are our thoughts. Because the mind is in constant receipt of chaotic stimulii, our mind constantly builds and rejects, modifies and encrypts new and more complex associations and associative chains. Yet however sophisticated these patterns become eg. the ontology of a [TRE] Set Theory, we are continually manufacturing maps to impose on the ever changing constellations as they appear from moment to moment. The associative compilations of the mind may develop and specialise into a sophisticated metatheory about a world view rooted in the physiological stresses of turnip growing (Farming), or the re-evaluation of relativity of associations dependent upon the physiological strengths employed to attain a new goal in life. eg. (Education). For instance, if the sensory chaos becomes less to do with the open country side and habitually or necessarily becomes associated with the sensory chaos of information processes (schooling), goals and habits may change, be selected and or diminish to be replaced by existing values that are more constant. A function of thought or recognition becomes the imposition of a map based on known physiological and associative boundaries upon some stimulus that seems to 'ring a bell' as it were ie. trigger some harmonic resonance amongst a matrix of firing patterns. The map then becomes, itself, an ergonomic reality, produced by resonance. If the associations are strong enough, or the stimulus is strong enough, a thought may resonate with more than one matrix of firing patterns, rather like harmonics, and this continued resonance becomes a tour through Isomorphism, for as long as the ergonomic entity or thought format that emerged originally had sufficient ergonomic integrity to physically ring the various bells of more abstract and further removed associations. This model could be mistaken for Materialism - ie. as expounding the Identity theory of Mind - the theory that various conscious phenomena are identical with states or processes in the brain or central nervous system, and the ramifications of that would be that we are no more and no less than the sum product of the capacity of our chemistry. Our notion of what Arithmetic is, ie. the Philosophy of Arithmetic and hence what reality is, is based upon the assertion that all substance is built upon nothing. Quite literally, the number One is - One empty set, the number two is One Empty set and Another Empty set. [cf. Frege] Tripartite Essentialism changes this mathematically empty and insubstantial universe and gives us a replacement for the Fregean notion of building substance from nothing, and in its place posits the Philosophy of Octal Arithmetic, and the notion of numbers being comprised of a set of four hard bits (intact Macro's) from which can be derived and asserted the substance of 'One', and a set of four soft bits (disintegrated Macro's) from which can be asserted the metatheoretical concept of zero. This would allow the synthesis of binary, hexary and decimal arithmetic, all essentially derivable from the substance of a base eight set. Metatheoretical, because there is in no case in either of the two sets absolutely nothing, but in all cases some aspect of an ergonomic reality of which there are a Limited Independent Variety of members. Zero in this instance should be referred to as the least ergonomic material at that time. This is an arithmetic with no concept of absolute zero - but a concept of the least in relation to some context that we can define for our purposes as zero. All Arithmetic and mathematical knowledge is synthesised out of the building blocks of essentialist sets enacted in an organic environment and in a physical medium based upon the octal reality of relativity in three dimensions of space and one of time. Thus if our basic building block is 'One' of something, the number one is a metatheoretical synthesis of a set of Macro-intact Essences, all completely derivable from the basics of the matter in which we are conscious. All knowledge, therefore, can be represented as a compilation from Octal Sets and in this respect is formally and logically derivable - the status of anything we percieve and indeed anything that exists in this cosmos or any other must be synthetic a priori. The only thing that can exist before the facts are metatheoretical values that we have given certain value judgements to - and if, like [TRE] the axioms, rules, logic and value systems are in agreement with Cosmic behaviour and are demonstrably Universal Laws, then we have deduced the necessary conclusion about the architecture of the Cosmos. A [TRE] theory of mind will also include an interpretation of cognition in terms of Macro, Meso and Micro. Thus to the Macro 'platform' of synthesised nets and associations, built up through increment in response to the environment - via an eclectic usage of Instructionism and Selectionism, enters chaos data as sensory information which is biologically processed through the electro-biology of the brain tissue, the Meso, from which emerges, the Micro, or evolutionary asset, the emerged standing waves or harmonics which stimulate and trigger new associations and firing patterns. This process is dynamic and continuous, and new associations and maps of reality are added to the old firing patterns which code for more habitual understandings of stimulii. Given that the new maps have validity for that identity - and confer some (evolutionary) advantage, adaptation to new kinds of environmental and contextual stimulii will take place. The ergonomic reality behind consciousness, expresses the same Tripartite and Universal Law that is fundamental to the [TRE] thesis, ie. the Inverse Square Law. - again reflected in the empirical observations of Lewin and his 'Field Theory of Psychology'. The mapping process of the brain is an attempt to impose meaning on stimulii - a biological attempt to impose order on Chaos - therefore it can be said that Meaning is Inversely proportional to Chaos ie. the more Meaning, the less Chaos. Harvesting meaning, therefore, takes ergonomic effort or work. For the meaning of any given map to be directly related to a system in the world of Chaos and its islands of structure of various shapes and sizes, it will have taken effort, and for any particular map to be Universal or deductive of a Natural Law, it will have taken habitual effort to be able to literally Harmonise with the external world of stimulii as well as the internal world of associations. By using the terms of an Associative Theory of Psychology, it must be realised that science has since 'disassociated' itself with this branch of psychology, because it was allegedly replaced by the seemingly more precise modelling of Cognitive Science. Association theory is, in effect, deemed out of date. Yet, a term like 'associative facilitation' - is defined as ' the facilitation of new associations by previously established ones. The term is obsolescent; the general notion is now expressed by a variety of more cognitive concepts involving rules, propositions, images and the like.' - yet associative facilitation seems to describe the mechanics of [TRE] - a more advanced Philosophy of Mind in a succinct manner. Associationism, according to a hefty dictionary of Psychology, ' in recent years - has lost some of its explanatory power in fields such as perception, cognition, psycholinguistics, developmental psychology and the like, mostly because of the compelling feeling that most processes are too complex to yield to an analysis based simply on associative connections.' Indeed, there have been a few landmarks of oversimplicity in associationism such as the associative-chain theory which suggests that a complex action was a chained series of fragments linked smoothly together in a series of elementary acts - where Bach becomes an associatively linked series of notes. This is thought of as too simplistic, yet whilst one cannot decontextualise actions and take reductionism too far, a [TRE] reading of the associative chain would not be as a linear string parsing for the next 'bit', but of a chain, comprised of a dynamic sequence of mutating mind frames, each frame being composed of linear nets orchestrated in parallel and coding for a current sensory state per given set of environmental and physiological stimulii. Bach, becomes an external and internal mapping adventure, not an attempt to add one note to another. The superglue which ties these organ-driven processes together - the associative bond between these [TRE] 'Associative Frame's' is the referencing to organic integrity and identity, proposed by Edelman [1993] which is perpetuated by the fundamental processes originating in the brain stem. A [TRE] reading of Associationism puts in a disclaimer for the concept of 'direct association' defined as 'an association between two items that is not mediated by other items or mnemonic devices, ie. it is "direct".' [TRE] would indicate that the status of all knowledge about the world is synthetic, ie. an association between two items is a synthesis of the associations stimulated by the recognition of each, facilitated within a mapping process, itself part of a dynamic sequence between and within a sequence of Associative Frames. The notion of a dynamic interaction between the identity and the environment in which a resolution of relationships was seen as a discharge of potentials was investigated by Kurt Lewin (1890-1947) in his Field Theory of Psychology. Lewin represented the world topographically and divided into components or regions, where the identity has to travel a pathway to reach a goal along a particular terrain which produces resistance of some sort. In an almost electrical and [TRE] insight - between the identity and the goal, there is a potential difference, where 'sufficiently strong boundaries between the systems are a prerequisite for the persistence of tension'. The realisation of a goal is seen as a discharge of current down an ergonomic gradient of potentials. The quest of the identity is to conquer the barriers to understanding in the topography of the 'world view' , creating more Life Space and territory, with the passage of time. Behaviour is characterised by movement through Life Space which has either positive or negative valence. Since behaviour becomes characterised as a journey or discharge of potentials in life space, a sharp parallel can be drawn between [TRE] which indicates that holistically, behaviour is precipitated by the existence of an ergonomic geography, and that this view is consistent with [TRE]. ie. Karsten [1928], ' The velocity with which an activity is satiated increases with the degree to which the activity is psychologically central (as against peripheral) - Lewin ' This proposition has the nature of a general law ...' The combination of a number of forces acting at the same point at a given time is called the resultant force, and the relation between this force and the (behavioural journey) .. can be described when a resultant force different from zero exists, there is either a locomotion in the direction of that force or a change in cognitive structure equivalent to this locomotion. The reverse holds; whenever a locomotion or change of structure exists, resultant forces exist in that direction. These scientific parallels indicate that it is possible to develop an empirical basis for a [TRE] Philosophy of Mind. One of Lewin's cronies was Wolfgang Kohler who drew the parallel between psychological field processes and electromagnetic fields of force. His argument was that any psychological process is dependent upon interactions within the field and cannot be viewed except from this point of view. The position is holistic and clashes with elementaristic approaches. Kohler extrapolated the general theory into the areas of physiological psychology, particularly the physiology of perception, and argued for the existence of electrical brain fields that correspond to phenomenological experience. In early Gestalt psychology, this is termed Isomorphism, which although sounds [TRE] orientated, separates the world from isomorphic brain events by the mechanics of perception. A [TRE] perspective would not separate brain events from the stimulii that induce them, other than to note that the world is processed by sensory organs and parameters that are 'Human' and is thus presented to the brain for processing, attenuated into impulses which are holistically consistent with the organic equilibrium existing between the Human Organic identity and its context. The following are the ingredients for a Holistic psychological metatheory based on the eight essences and the functional aspects of the relativity of the environment identifiable to our senses and upon which we will build associations. Rather imaginitively it is called Grail Psychology, to impart the notion of a container or Field, or Map, or something which contains and delineates a Set of items. As it turns out, this [TRE] implementation of psychological essences has the benefits of Logical Formalism and all the other aspects of the [TRE] thesis eg. [LIV] - Limited Independent Variety. 1.01 Every system is nested within another system (Holism). or every Map or Associative Frame, is nested within another Associative Frame [AF] by a dynamic relation. 1.02 Every Map is the product of Emergence from the dynamic equilibrium between existing Frames and the world. 2.01 A Map is either Sound or not Sound for any given Context. {C} v {-C} This would determine whether the Macro was structure or non structure and whether or not it gave meaning to the sensory context. 2.02 A Map is constantly augmented to maintain its function or not ie. there are either enough associations with which to give the map meaning and infrastructure, or there are not. {F} v {-F}. These ' synthetic a priori' facts and associations are the only data and experience with which the current map can be interpreted. (Meso). 2.03 A Map provides the potential for evolution and adaptation or does not, ie. it is an Evolutionary Asset or is not - (Micro). {P} v {-P}. 2.04 The negation of set {C,F,P} ie. {-C,-F,-P} implies that for the purposes of Logical inference, the factors causally exist,and can be deduced, because their negation can be derived. 3.01 The Human synthesis of the factors within these sets, adds a qualitative Human perspective to the function of ergonomic relativity and how we map it both as organisms and as Social Organisms. Where, {C}, becomes a function of a whole and valid social Life Plan or perspective within an economic infrastructure; {F}, becomes the maintenance of economic information, artefacts and other associations within that Life Perspective (Meso), and {P}, becomes an indication of success and competition, not just with rationalising organic perception, but with rationalising economic information in the Social Fabric that is providing the context for our stimulii. Thus Social success in this context of sensory input and mapping, becomes associated with the Mapping process of the organic mind given that all associations are derived within a Social fabric that is 'Capital'. Thus Set {C,F,P} produces subset {Cx,Fy,Pz} - where: x = income/earnings and life potential. y = maintenance and augmentation of life mechanics. z = evolutionary potential to migrate across Class and Information Barriers. Within the context of the Family Unit: Cx = establishment of the abode. Fy = provision and maintenance of Family infrastructure/Mechanisms Pz = evolutionary potential for growth and migration within society. One asks, are {x,y,z} real ? for as an empirical measure of the reality of society, Capital and social structure they can be empirically verified as components of Life. Our associations and experience turn the mapping process of the organic mind into a record of our social environment, and a record of Capital and Organic attainment. However - other Social labels for {x,y,z} could also be modelled - if not the social criteria of success of capital, then academic or physical. These proceedings exist before the fact of our existence (a priori) in a very organic and synthesised way. The following Set of Eight Essences can represent a framework - a descriptive set of processes that describe/model how we function in the social world we inhabit. They can mathematically model the epistemology of the human psychology - and serve as HEURISTICS in the effort to tie seemingly irrational a posteriori knowledge into a computable framework. This framework can ultimately tie thought processes to the Boolean Arithmetic of computer processes and may make an interphase between the human mind and machine possible. The language 'T' - [atoms] The eight essences are :- Macro C C C C Cx Cx Cx Cx Meso F F Fy Fy F F Fy Fy Micro P Pz P Pz P Pz P Pz 4.01 Under the [Tripartite] conditions of [Limited Independent variety], etc, 'Shell' Psychology is Sound, Compact and Logically Complete under the formalism of Logical Calculii ie. Sentential and Predicate Calculus. 4.02 There are 64 expected outcomes from the Languages (L),(P) and [T] and by what is empirically known of the tendency of equilibria in the physical world ie. how all tendencies either emerge or demerge to a relatively organised state, it is possible to draw the inference that the Human Psychology is not naturally anarchic although telic and mechanical structural influences will be attenuated to attain equilibrium. ie. We wouldn't make good robots ! 4.03 Whatever {x,y,z} are, all Civilised societies organised around the distribution and redistribution of life essences would tend towards some natural and structured equilibrium, that is, despite the fact that all around may be chaos (literally). 4.04 Broadly speaking, Universal Society will organise and maintain {C,F,P} using some category of Life Essence. In Human Society, this is organised around the token system of Capital {x,y,z} which may purchase other systems eg. energy or information systems relevant to the Social Paradigm. In other Social systems, Life forms may maintain their societies by either augmenting {C,F,P} directly with absorbed energies, bipassing Capital eg. a set {j,k,l}, or may maintain {C,F,P} with the direct input of certain types of information, rather than the indirect restrictions of Capital tokens eg. a set {m,n,o} - and by utilising this information to optimise the parameters of existence may not need to deal in the abstract monetary systems of the Human Paradigm. In each of the three sets used to augment {C,F,P} we have a simple basis with which to make logical and abstract constructs on a Philosophy of Mind that does not necessarily have to be Human, and this is possible because all life needs structure or a structural system in which to retain essence. Hence SHELL PSYCHOLOGY . This new model of human psychology is directly linked to the ontology of the language T and its 64 mapped forms, and the formal completeness proof for 'T', and is probably the only model for Human Psychology that can be designated formally complete. Where does the formal theory of resonances lead us to, some definition of soul, or of telepathy - in fact picking up someones 'vibes' or vibrations becomes a physical and biological possibility where the induction of electromagnetic resonance in another person with whom one is in 'harmony' leads us to the formal appreciation of those concepts - especially within the light of this theory. [TRE] The veils of mystery that have always surrounded the mind and its processes are coming down at last, but at the expense of the existing theory of mind - Cognitive Science, which would have it that the mind is somehow made up of task orientated components like a computer, in reality, the processes to be modelled are a form of metatheoretical 'music' deduced from the mathematics of ergonomic turbulence and chaos theory. This process has been demonstrated by Plichta [1997] - to be mathematically and ontologically musical from a Tripartite Relativity. The metaphysical application pf [TRE] gives us a 'music of the mind' The formal model for Shell Psychology demonstrates that for any given psychological paradigm, the thought processes can be labelled Complete and that they tend towards evolution at equilibrium on the edge of chaos. With the mathematical processes of thought now outlined, and the epistemological status of such knowledge being clearly advanced to 'synthetic a priori' - which is a major advance over other research which is relegated to dealing with the irrational complexities of 'labels in the world' ie. 'a posteriori' knowledge - the tripartite theory of mind opens the door for the rational mathematical exploration of cognition. There is also an opportunity to bring empathy onto a formal academic footing through the inference of resonance and empathy, and the octal mathematics of music, wave theory and harmony, and we may eventually succeed in demonstrating a force for social cohesion.
