Subject: UN General Assembly Special Session on Children at risk of failure

* News Release Issued by the International Secretariat of Amnesty
International *

10 May 2002
IOR 41/016/2002

INTERVIEW AVAILABILITY

The UN General Assembly Special Session on Children, meeting in
New York, is at risk of failing to defend the rights of children
themselves because of an obstructionist USA position. After two
years of intense lobbying to ensure that the protection of
children's human rights are at the forefront of this Special
Session, the outcome document could end up backsliding from the
achievements of the rights enshrined in the Convention on the
Rights of the Child 12 years ago.

Vienna Colucci, Amnesty International delegate to the UN
General Assembly Special Session on Children, is available for
interviews and comments on the proceedings and outcome, on mobile
+ 1 708 692 8812.

DECLARATION & DISCLAIMER
==========
CTRL is a discussion & informational exchange list. Proselytizing propagandic
screeds are unwelcomed. Substance—not soap-boxing—please! These are
sordid matters and 'conspiracy theory'—with its many half-truths, mis-
directions and outright frauds—is used politically by different groups with
major and minor effects spread throughout the spectrum of time and thought.
That being said, CTRLgives no endorsement to the validity of posts, and
always suggests to readers; be wary of what you read. CTRL gives no
credence to Holocaust denial and nazi's need not apply.

Let us please be civil and as always, Caveat Lector.
