Vajpayee, Blair sign declaration on terrorism: India-Pakistan talks
possible

NEW DELHI, Jan 6: British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Indian
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee signed a joint declaration here
on Sunday, condemning all those who support and finance terrorism.

The declaration specifically equated the last month's attack on the
Indian Parliament and Oct 1 bombing of state legislature in the
occupied Kashmir - both of which New Delhi has blamed on
Pakistani-based militants - with the Sep 11 atrocities in the
United States.

"We condemn all those who support terrorism: those that finance,
train or provide support for terrorists share their guilt", the
communique said. "Those responsible for these crimes must be
delivered to justice", it added

INDIA WILL TALK: Prime Minister Tony Blair said he believed India
was ready to engage in a "meaningful dialogue" with Pakistan over
Kashmir if Islamabad rejected terrorism in all its forms.

Blair told a news conference in New Delhi there could be no half
measures in stamping out terror, and urged Pakistan President
General Pervez Musharraf to act against extremists and engage in
talks with India.

"There is no doubt as to what needs to happen. There must be a
complete rejection of terrorist acts and the support of them in any
shape or form," Blair said after talks with Indian Prime Minister
Atal Behari Vajpayee.

"There is no halfway house here, and once it is clear that
rejection is there, then I believe that India...is prepared to have
a meaningful dialogue."

India has massed troops on the border urging Islamabad to launch a
crackdown on all 'anti-Indian' militant outfits in Pakistan.
"Everybody knows what the situation is. On one hand a complete
rejection of this type of terrorism, and on the other side a
meaningful dialogue. But it is something that Pakistan and India
have to decide", he also said.

Blair said the international community wanted India and Pakistan to
find a way to the negotiating table. "People want to see the
circumstances brought about where dialogue and the political
process can take the place of extremism and terrorism," he
said.-Reuters/AFP
