CODE RED ATTACK
Nearly 12,000 windows based servers have been struck by the new
CODE RED virus. The worm virus attacks a known flaw in the
Microsoft Internet Information Server software and defaces the
Web sites hosted by the server. Microsoft has a patch available
on its website. The virus is suspected to have originated from
China.

RED AND BLUE
China Southern Airlines has begun phase two of IBM's IT
management system for aircraft maintenance. The software system
supplied by big blue is part of a $2.7 million effort to improve
the Chinese airlines aircraft maintenance documents up to Air
Transport Assn's ATA2100 electronic standard.

9 OUT 10
Lockheed Martin's Patriot PAC-3 missile missed a Hera target due
to a failure in the software. The failure was located in a
faulty hand-off of target data between two onboard processors
inside the missile. The recent miss at White Sands NM ends a
streak of nine previous direct hits by the PAC-3 Patriot. The
next test is in October.

DID I GET IT?
The Defense Dept. test of an anti-missile interceptor Sunday was
a direct hit. However, a key ground based radar system was
unable to determine if the computer controlled kill-vehicle had
actually hit the ballistic missile target at a speed of over
16,000 miles an hour. The ground based X-band radar software is
suspected since it lost track of both the space based kill
vehicle and its simulated missile warhead target at the same
time.
