Foskett Jr. Telegram & Gazette Staff "Worcester - At least 70 percent of the women who participate in programs at Abby's House, a shelter for homeless and battered women and children, experience symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder....."We (Abby's House) had been part of a fairly well-known study that focused on the relationship between poverty and abuse," she said. "It was a long-term study that determined that 83 percent of women who have lived in poverty for extended periods of time have experienced physical and/or sexual abuse. "That same study found that abuse leads to post-traumatic stress disorder, especially in cases of domestic violence, where someone is under the complete control of their partner," she added.
