My read/write performance jumped by a factor of 5,
which really
astounded me.

hello. Yes, I was vaguely aware of the lack of extended attributes for
NetBSD-Zfs, but
what I was suggesting was just using a flat file, exported via iscsi through
istgt or your
initiator of choice, on top of zfs, rather than a zvol, because you'll find the
read/write speed

Hello. While this is orthogonal to the task you're working on in this
e-mail, I'll note
that you'll get much better read-write performance if you create a standard zfs
filesystem for
your time machine backup, then create a regular file in it which you export via
iscsi. I

Looks like an initialization issue on behalf of iscsi-target. Does that
ring a bell for anyone?
Just as a data point, I am exporting a zvol via iscsi on 9.2 with

Thanks. Different, but not (much) better. While iscsi-

I have been using iSCSI target backed by a zvol for quite some time.

Independent of your problem you should use 'istgt' from pkgsrc.

Hi,
I would like to set up an iscsi target backed by a zfs zvol, to serve
as a Mac time machine volume.
But the attempt to start the target fails with
# /etc/rc.d/iscsi_target onestart
Starting iscsi_target.
Reading configuration from `/etc/iscsi/targets'
