The same applies to most of the rest of us who may use the company computer to access their mail- you could find yourself in trouble if whatever you write displeases yor employer. I know this from bitter experience having been threatened with legal action twice by companies who did not like what was written about them. Both times they tried to use my employer as a stick to beat me with, both times they failed because universities defend the freedom of speech a lot stronger than most would and always have done (it also helps if you are right in what you say but I still went through the mill). Without this freedon of speech (in universities specifically rather than generally)Darwin's theories would have never been made public and we would not be allowed to read newspapers. This discussion forum is moderated by our illustrious editor but that hopefully mean that he does not censor what is published. I hope IG does not throw in the towel because his recent input has shown a more enlightened attitude than many of us and seems to have taken our more focussed grievances to heart. If you were at the SAGBNI foundation meeting you will remember the comments of Andy Duffy saying that nearly all shooting police officers support the aims of the Association but cannot be actively involved because it would cross that threshold. I hope that belief is still there amongst our subscribers who are both shooters and serving police officers and that they do not feel as if they cannot hold a view otherwise we are all the poorer and it will only be our own pig-headedness to blame.
