Hello,
Norton antivirus destroyed all my cygwin1.dll because it claims
that they were infected by a virus named backdoor.egghead.
Effectively in the original tarball the cygwin1.dll (of may 2001) has the

I'm interested in the implementation as discribed in using the UNC names.

Dave,
You say that you put Cygwin's bin directory in your PATH variable, but you
did not say whether you put it in the system-wide PATH (the lower list of
variables in the System control panel's environment display) or that of the
current user (at the time you added it)--the upper list in the

I have no trouble running inetd on cygwin 1.3.9 and win2ksp2. Maybe your
install of cygwin isn't complete? Remember to follow the install
instructions precisely for inetd.

Paul,
Whenever I see a hard-coded list of arbitrary values like that, I usually
conclude there is a need for an externally controlled way to specify that
list of values.
If I were going to go in and muck around with this code, I'd add a variable
such as CYGPATHVARS or some such (naming rights

My suggestion is a simple patch and recompile to cygwin. There
is a file called environ.cc. It contains the code that
automaticly converts variables like PATH and HOME to cygwinformat
when it enters cygwin, and back when it leaves.
All you have to do is add the code preceded by the plus signs c
I tested this implementation this weekend and it works surprisingly well.
I would like to ask however, how do you code cygrunsrv commands to install
cron or inetd to make
use of this kind of implementation ?
Thanks for your response.

Have you considered RTFM? Or more specifically, the FAQ. Look for

Hello,
I compiled the XEmacs 21.5.4 on my Cygwin _NT-5.1 1.3.9(0.51.3.2)

TTY-Mode with Option -t or -nw the xemacs failed without any visible
ErrorMsg.
Should it work under Cygwin?
How could I find out what der Problem is?

I have installed cygwin on my Win2000 machine and I am logged on that
one as DOMAIN/userx. DOMAIN/userx is not a local user for my machine but
a user in the domain DOMAIN. Now when I start
