Hello Steven and Hans-Bernhard,
I believe the problem stems from a missing component in the runtime.
When I use Gentoo's Crossdev and generate either the 32 or 64 bit
version of MinGW, it allows me to compile and link the app with no
other dependencies than msvcrt.dll. I can run the cross-compile
I've had this same problem (setup hanging) installing on many different
machines and it was always caused by anti-virus software.

Hello,
I am writing bash scripts that are required to run unchanged (as much as
possible) on Cygwin and Linux.
A (small) detail I am having problems with is the issue of redirecting
output to the null device, or bit-bucket.
If I write the following

Thank you, Thorsten!

Hello, after installing the very latest version of cygwin and running
the sshd install script, I am having problems getting the ssh daemon to
run:

I have to chime in here;
Originally, I became curious about Linux BECAUSE of Cygwin.
As I experimented more and more with Cygwin, I became really impressed

Hello List!
I found and adapted a Windows registry hack to permit opening Bash
prompts in any folder in Explorer by right-clicking on the folder and
selecting the "Open with Cygwin Shell (bash)" menu entry.
It works fine, but for some strange reason, whenever a folder is
selected that has a long-

did manage to obtain the makedepend source by checking the source-code
option for all the X11 modules.
Thanks.

Hi,
I'd like to modify makedepend. To do this I'd like to select the Install
Source Code option for it in the setup program.
I know it comes with Cygwin, but I can't seem to figure out which
package (or install module) it is in.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I figure I could obtain
Hello Christopher,
You mentioned getting BSODs; I have gotten those a few times with Cygwin,
usually when searching in Cygwin's file system while Cygwin's X was active.
Running a disk repair fixed the problem.
