Thank you Corrina for your answer although you did not offer a solution.
The problem is very similar to problems Igor Peschansky and others
had in the past with XP SP1, apparently because of change

I reported on this problem with tetex 3.0.0-2 two weeks ago but received no
replies:
I have cygwin updated to the latest version. After the upgrade
to teTeX 3.0.0-2 the program preview-latex inside xemacs stopped working.
I use the version of Xemacs that is supplied with cygwin. The file

I am using the recent snapshot from 12/31 and having no problems whatsoever.
This is on windows xp.

After the success of the 10/10/03 snapshot to solve xemacs problems, there
were again problems with recent snapshots that caused preview-latex to die
and xemacs to crash. The most recent snapshot from 12/23 solved all these
problems.

This faq is not clear enough and should be updated. It does not give the
location of the snapshots: http://cygwin.com/snapshots/
which can also be accessed from the cygwin main page, see on the very left
the item Snapshots and click on it. Then you have to
download the file cygwin1-.dll.bz2
The recent snapshot from 10/10/03 seems to have solved the XEmacs problem
for me. Thank
you Chris for an excellent job. It was clear from the start that you were
the right person to solve this problem.

No, This readme is only for the original library. It does not discuss how to
apply the cygwin patch and how to run the attached cygwin script. I
mentioned this reaadme in my original post.

I need to recompile libiconv-1.8 for cygwin (due to recent changes in cygwin
headers the supplied library gives errors when compling clisp). From cygwin
setup I get the original library + a patch+ a script. Can someone be so kind
to let me know how to run the script? When I run it responds with Er

it chokes on loading the file "type.lisp" with "unix error 2 file not

Bug
Well, the need really originates from making a program called xmaxima
interface with a script maxima. xmaxima is a tcl program that is looking for
a maxima.exe but in clisp maxima there is only a maxima sh script that
xmaxima cannot evoke. I tried to make a .bat file that calls the bash script

Is there a way to convert a bash (or sh or csh ) script into an windows .exe
file so it can be executed by a windows program or by clicking on it in
explorer?
