Ghostview 3.6.5 - can't open ps files

Hello I installed gv 3.6.5 under cygwin 1.7.5. I can start gv but when I open a postscript file the mouse pointer converts to a watch symbol and the plot is not displayed. Else no errors or warnings are displayed. Has anybody an idea how this problem can be solved? Thanks. Hans --
