The latest upstream release of etckeeper is now available in the Cygwin
distribution.
https://etckeeper.branchable.com/
Etckeeper is a tool to let /etc be stored in git or mercurial. It hooks
into Cygwin Setup to automatically commit changes made to /etc during
package upgrades. It tracks file metadata (permissions, owner, group)
that version control systems do not normally support.
Bazaar is not fully supported, the pre-commit hook Python module is not
included.
Please note that Cygwin Setup <= 2.919 cannot automatically run the hook
for 'etckeeper pre-install'. The next release will include this
functionality.
As a workaround, 'etckeeper pre-install' could be run manually before
starting setup. If 'etckeeper pre-install' is not run, the 'etckeeper
post-install' hook then also commits any pending changes done before
setup, the "Package changes:" list in the log message is always empty
and the "Packages with configuration changes:" list does not appear. The
remaining functionality is not affected.
Please note that, unlike some Linux etckeeper packages, the postinstall
script of this package does not perform the initialization of /etc/.git.
Run 'etckeeper init && etckeeper commit' manually under the same user
which is effective during setup.
