nd no shell type option given
dircolors: no SHELL environment variable, and no shell type option given
It seems that the new bash doesn't provide dircolors with a SHELL
environment variable. Is this a dircolors or bash effect?

It is perfectly legal to
have a path like
PATH=chuck:/bin
but if the directory happens to be called "c" rather than "chuck" then
we have the problem as the PATH would now be
PATH=c:/bin
We either say you can't do that or deal with it.

=tape_block_size > file_on_disc
tar tf /dev/st0
and

I've run it under strace and unfortunately all that the strace shows is
that it never opens some of the directories and then read them. I'll
need to pick up the source and try and debug it.

TapeGetPos: 6: The handle is invalid.
These two reports are associated with the tell request to mt. This works
for another machine with a DAT drive. (This one is a QIC525 Tandberg
3800 unit).
cygcheck -r -s -v follows and shows that I updated cygwin today to
1.5.1.

I have downloaded cygwin-inst-20001019.tar.bz2, and installed it.
The results of "ls" and "cygcheck" are given below.
Hoping this will make it clear that the dates are not being rendered
correctly (at least by "ls").

Following up on Larry Hall's suggestion to try a new snapshot I
downloaded cygwin-inst-20001018.tar.bz2 but the resulting dll makes bash
exit immediately with a handle complaint. Can anyone recommend a
relatively stable recent snapshot?
