I had the same problem and as you said there was not any response on this
forum. But I have found solution that works for me. While running the cygwin
setup you have an option that set the default text file type. While
installation it have to be set as recommended - unix/binary. After

You may want to use startxwin.sh or startxwin.bat, since there seems to
be no evidence of anybody trying those methods yet. My experience is
that I have tried startx and startxwin.sh, and they both don't work; the
startxwin.bat file is the only one that worked for me. Try it out, and
