Sincere thanks for your offer, jys!

However, after reading Aurélien's excellent article
<https://pixls.us/articles/darktable-3-rgb-or-lab-which-modules-help/>,
and with your comment, I've a better idea of how to use filmic and
exposure to replace base curve and use a couple of the other modules
such as color balance, tone and contrast equalizers, &c., to tweak the
photo the way I like it.

Sadly, it is like learning DT all over again. I formerly used many of
the older Lab modules. Finding some presets that I like in these newer
or recommended modules will be a challenge, but Aurélien has convinced
me that migrating away from the older Lab modules results in cleaner
processing and fewer artifacts. Now I need to go back and watch some
of his videos again
