After a lot of struggle I managed to install amdgpu drivers on my Ubuntu 18.04. It did not work with kernel 5.0 but going back to kernel 4.15 worked fine. Flawless installation of amdgpu 18.40.   Then I ran darktable-cltest  (darktable 3.0 rc1) and got the following result:   0.037740 [open
