"Copying files around in your system is almost always a very bad idea. I would 
advise to undo that, rm -rf build/ and start over. Cmake should be able to find 
the libraries in their new location, too."

Point taken -- I deleted the OpenEXR dev .so files from /usr/lib that I had 
copied and then ran (sudo) rm -rf build/ and tried again.  The compile worked, 
so thank you for that additional information about the inner workings of Cmake 
...
