I stumbled on an unexpected behavior.
DT 2.2.0 on Ubuntu 16.04
Looks like if I am to apply crop after having a vignette the position of
the vignette will not be preserved - it would move.

Do you mean just place two (or more) images side by side? Then, no.
If you are trying to create a panorama from several images, then you
could consider 'hugin'. From

it is available from testing repo:

Strange, that library works for me. I used the image with id 3, replaced the
folder + filename in the db with a testfile of mine and started
