For the benefit of anyone interested in elevation metadata for geotagging, I have just been informed by Panasonic that their Panasonic Image App does not provide elevation information, even when it is available on the phone providing the GPS lat/long data to the app.  I can't speak to other manufacturers' products or processes.

For what it's worth, I don't get Elevation data when importing into darktable either.  I do see elevation data on the phone, so I'm not clear as to where it's getting lost in the process.  It could be getting lost between the phone and Panasonic Image App as the image is being recorded (then again, latitude and longitude ARE being recorded and do show up in darktable), or after it has been recorded and as the image is being imported into darktable. Is there anyone else using a Lumix camera that is not getting elevation data in darktable?

All metadata has been checked.

I must modify my previous comment.  The metadata preferences (settings) do include an entry for elevation (third from the bottom).  You might want to note whether that has been checked.

Altitude is not a discrete tag within the export preferences module.

Hi,

while converting from nef to jpg using

    darktable-cli file.nef xmp-file file.jpg

the exif tag GPSAltitude is lost. There are more differences in the exif tags between the jpg and nef file. See attached pdf.

I seems to me  the missing GPSAltitude and the double DateTimeOriginal are bugs. Other differences can be correct. Could someone with more experience than I have maybe take a look at it? The missing  GPSAltitude is a bit annoying.

Hello,

Maybe I am wrong, but if I remember correctly this can be set using a menu in the export module. There you can set what data you whish to export together with you images.

Rgrds,

J.-Luc
