aaah, I have to right-click them while hovering the mask area itself
in the photo NOT in the right side menu. That works! Thank you!

This does not work for me inside the module, as the list only shows
masks not added yet. So as soon as I select one it disappears from the
list.
Thank you @Kova, in the mask manager I can remove masks from the group
again. It feels like it could potentially affect other modules too
though.

I had exactly the problem and I would reset the module to erase the
unwanted masks and redo it again.
