Hah!!
My dilemma is solved, I must have hit the CTRL key instead of the SHFT
key when scrolling the feather size, and inadvertently run the opacity
down to zero, which is why I thought it had stopped working. Back to
being a happy little Vegemite again. (Aussie term for A-OK)

I was about an hour into my work, retouch was quick and clean, and from
one frame working to the next frame unresponsive. Nothing unusual in my
work flow, it just stopped working, and so did spot removal module as
well, clone stamp not working. I closed Darktable and started it up
again -
